Porsche-o-philes Alert: CAR celebrates 60-years of Stuttgart's finest {Autoblog}

May 2nd 2008 1:25AM The best Porsche ever? I'll cross my fingers for the new GT3. Unless the Ruf Yellowbird is eligible.

GT-R drops 'Ring time down to 7:29 {Autoblog}

May 1st 2008 12:31PM Nurburgring ruining future cars? It's an interesting thought, but I don't necessarily agree with that.

At the end of the day, people buy cars for their own practical use or emotional benefit.

Sure, let's say a company like Aston Martin or Maserati could refine the V8 Vantage or the Gran Turismo on athleticism, but that's not what defines those cars. Most people who get those cars aren't concerned about the best power band, cornering ability, etc. They want something powerful with class.

And when you look at the Porsche 911 or the Z06, the kind of people who like those cars like them for different reasons. Porsche carries a certain cache, and luxurious feel and image. Z06 has the raw feeling feeling of power, combine with the fun of rear wheel drive.

People who are interested in the GT-R, aren't buying one because it's a sex icon. They're not buying it toss it around like an F430 off trac control. Drivers who want a GT-R want one because it's so utterly dominant as a fat, overweight sportscar; a kind of in your face, I cost three times as less as a steers-are-for-queers Gallardo (I don't really mean that by the way, that's just a cheesy Full Metal Jacket reference) and I can punk you around like fat Sammo Hung VS muscles from Brussels Van Damme.

And it seems like most people want to talk smack about the GT-R because it's styling isn't something they can get emotionally involved with, and that's okay. It's like, most people wouldn't dig the look of a Lancia Stratos or a Lancer Evo V, but to me they carry a certain charm.

And that's why sports car won't be ruined by Nurburgring. All the car companies are going to continue to make something for their target customer.
