European hunting season cancelled: Cadillac CTS-V not crossing Atlantic {Autoblog}
Jul 12th 2008 9:22AM Even though the best selling cars in Europe and the UK are Fords, they are not American cars. They are cars designed by the European branch of an American company. The Focus' that are sold in Europe are not made in the same factories as the ones here in the States. The Mondeo I don't think even share parts from our cars. So this is a pointless part of this argument. However I would like to know how a UK Focus differs from mine sine I think mine is very unrefined and feel my Nissan Versa is a better built car.
Personally, I don't like Caddy. The CTS maybe a step in the right direction but I think most people see Caddy as huge land yachts with a floaty ride quality. Something us Americans used to view as what makes a car a premium car. Europeans have a different standard. I don't think our standards should be viewed as lesser but just different. Most European towns are so small that cars like our old muscle cars just would not work due to their size. It's a difference based out of need. I do believe that maybe Europeans are more into a total package instead of just pure straight line speed.
Now Americans want cars that are built to the standards that most Europeans do. Good materials, sold build, sporty in all dimensions instead of just forward, but comfortable. The CTS is the first car the US has built that actually comes close, if not meets. Never driven a CTS or it's competitors so don't know for sure whose actually best in my view.
Because of this the Americans will defend the CTS to death. However the Europeans probably still see the Caddy as defined by the Seville, Deville, and Fleetwood. Some will hate it because of the Escalade which I feel is horrendous but that's a different story. Heck some maybe scared that the Americans are finally getting it right.
So there's probably going to be some extremes here. People from both sides are probably right.
Fuel economy not luxurious enough according to Orlando {Autoblog}
Jun 16th 2008 3:52PM Lincoln used to be luxury cars. I would not want to be seen in one these days. A diesel Benz would be a better choice. The sad fact that most Americans don't know much about cars, I'm sure a Lexus ES hybrid would be more acceptable than a Camry hybrid with more options. Just because it's big and expensive does not mean it's luxury. A car like that would be hated in Europe, they don't even like the new Caddy's over there and they are much nicer with the exception of the Escalade.
Spotted in the wild: 2009 Lincoln MKS in Ann Arbor {Autoblog}
May 24th 2008 8:39PM Saw this at the auto show this year. Hated it. Not that attractive, looks too much like a rebadged Taurus. The interior felt and looked cheap. The faux wood looked like it came from the side of a 1980's station wagon. The only good Ford is the Focus and that's probably since it was designed for the Euro market. I doubt anything from this car will be on the Mondeo. Ford needs to scrap it all, bring over their Euro cars, hell build them here. Drop Mercury since they sell less than the last 2 years of Plymouth and reengineer Lincoln to be at least competitive with Cadillac or preferably against the major German brands.
Spy Shots: 2009 Acura TL {Autoblog}
May 20th 2008 10:12PM Isn't the TL the Euro Accord? I'm sure it'll be another FWD overly hyped car from Honda. It'll probably make 10 more HP but at 5000RPM higher than current too.
Ford surprises with $100 million net income in Q1 {Autoblog}
Apr 24th 2008 2:38PM Ford makes great products for Europe.I'm sure that is where most of the profits are coming from. The Mondeo, Focus, and Fiesta are loved cars with a higher build quality than we get here.
Race Driver: Grid to feature eBay Motors marketplace in-game {Autoblog}
Apr 23rd 2008 5:29PM I wonder if they will lower the cost of the game since they will be getting advertising dollars.
