What Kia's have you driven. Not one of their new models feels 'cheap'. Cheap compared to who. The Optima I had the other day and the Sportage a few weeks ago felt very substantial and well-built.

May 12th 2008 11:01AM If the weight is decent and the mileage is good, and considering its a 2 liter, Im guessing the fuel mileage will be better than the Honda and the Toyo, anyway, this has a chance to be everything the XB shoulda been the @nd go-around. The XB is thirsty, heavy and just a botched assignment for product redesign. Toyota is looking like the GM of old.

Hyundai/Kia has a test track/proving ground and cooperative technical center in Michigan and California and a design studio in Fountain Valley.
THEY DO NOT HAVE A PLANT IN CALIFORNIA!
The Kia plant will produce C-segment cars or the new Sorento in Georgia.

May 10th 2008 1:58PM Hyundai dumped MB early in this decade, a 10% buyout of Daimler. They said they didn't want to share technology after huge investments in R&D and they wanted to 'go it alone'.
Hyundai has also told the Toyota Chair 'No Thanks' Lexus wanted into their ultra-modern Ulsan plant in exchange for a visit to the top Lexus plant in Japan.
It's hard for many, due to their perception frailties, to believe Hyundai is nearly the 5th largest automaker in the world and they are world-class but their $65 billion in revenues is starting to get Hyundai what they want.
And that engine with the plastic intake manifold, well, it has been test and found to have a 300,000 mile lifespan. So much for the 'ewww sick' stuff.

May 9th 2008 8:32AM I rode in this recently while on vacation in Grand Cayman. I asked the guy who was driving how this stacked up and he told me it's probably the best he could buy for his business. He said Toyota's are too expensive and not as good as the Hyundai product. The Koreans are just doing to the Japanees what the Japanese did to everyone else. What goes around comes around.
