Apr 22nd 2008 8:19AM The diesel is the only Smart that makes any sense. The economy gap between the diesel and the gassers is so large that if diesel was $6.00 a gallon it still would make sense to go with the diesel. Look at how small this car is, 40mpg is a joke.

Apr 22nd 2008 8:08AM I’m sure glad I purchased my 2005 diesel Passat for an additional $300.00 over the gasser. My car is now worth $6000.00 over a comparable 2005 Passat gasser. The fuel prices have defiantly taken a hit but with the increased mileage about evens things out. I also have an additional component, torque.

Apr 15th 2008 9:36AM The diesel option on my 2005 Passat TDI was only an additional $200.00. The vehicle is worth 22,000 a comparable gas Passat is worth 14,000. My 200 dollars investment is now worth 6000 dollars. That sounds economical to me.
