Ronn Motors' Scorpion: 450 horses, 40 miles to the gallon {Autoblog}
Jul 25th 2008 7:01AM "This engine produces nearly 300 horsepower stock and with our twin turbo option, over 450 horsepower."
I'll bet this is actually 450hp OR 40mpg. 300hp, 2100lbs and 40mpg sounds about right.
This would be an eco-car without any silly hydrogen system. So if its actually been built, I think it could get that good of gas mileage... on account of being lightweight.
The water tank is probably doing absolutely nothing. I'll bet without the added weight of his 'HHO system' the car would actually get 41mpg.

Jul 24th 2008 7:01PM Do they really need the hydrogen injection?
Wouldn't a 2100lb VTEC be capable of 30+ mpg on the highway with the right gearing?
Even at 450hp, thats a light car. Z06 gets almost 30 hwy, and it weighs 30% more.

Having taken Basic Physics II hardly qualifies you to be any more than a big douche.
Was a joke.

Jul 24th 2008 6:03PM I think you use a separate mini-CVT to transfer torque from the rotating disk to the DCG of the car.
The reason you use the separate CVT, is it can vary continuously between the very high rpms of the flywheel to the moderate rpms of the car, while still transferring torque from 1 < - > other.
At least that was how I understood it.

Jul 24th 2008 3:26PM Aluminum chassis, suspension + CF body?
I dunno, there's probably a lot of the non-crush-zone section of a car that could be replaced with CF and not have it shatter like an egg.
doors, hood, roof, trunk, firewalls? isn't CF heat tolerant?

Jul 24th 2008 3:16PM @ Steve,
probably because its going to the CF manufacturer to develop the tooling and production plan for THIS specific project.
Its kinda like government contracting here. That much time would be charged 'direct' to the government to satisfy some government mandated feasibility study.
Our EPA does it all the time. This is not 'propping up' a company.

Jul 24th 2008 2:53PM @ the other bob,
This is 3 successful Japanese companies doing a grant proposal.
Not 3 unsuccessful US companies needing help to play catch-up because of poor management.
There's a difference.

Jul 24th 2008 2:51PM The Japanese government is responding to a proposal by 3 successful companies with a grant to develop the technology.
I have no problem with the US government funding the inventor who develops the world's most powerful battery (if Toyota doesn't do it first anyway).
This is not like throwing money at 3 unsuccessful companies to play catch-up on technologies they should have started work on 10-15 years ago.

Jul 24th 2008 12:17PM Diesel increses the probability of regularly beating the EPA numbers.
And it is because of the torque peaking low and lean. You don't have to get on the throttle much at all to accelerate and cruise during day-day driving.
