Corvette ZR1 engineer says GT-R won't be King of the 'Ring for long {Autoblog}

May 2nd 2008 3:50PM @LS2/LS7, Nothing other than mid-range to high-rpm power will come into play on the 'ring.

@Proud Japanese: The Carrera GT uses a lightweight V-10 engine originally intended for Le Mans racing, and a Pushrod actuated inboard suspension. Pure racing technology.

@Chapparal: That's apples to oranges. The GT-R develops signficantly more power than the 997T and has a far more sophisticated AWD system.

Corvette ZR1 engineer says GT-R won't be King of the 'Ring for long {Autoblog}

May 2nd 2008 2:29PM The Carrera GT, which, at 612bhp and 3000lbs has a slightly better power to weight ratio than the ZR1, lapped the ring in 7:28.

The Cerrara GT also has arguably superior weight distribution, and a MUCH lower center of gravity. The brakes are similar, the size of the rubber is similar.

So, a RWD car with a better power to weight ratio, similar grip, similar braking and superior balance to the ZR1 barely beats the GT-R's lap time, and is beaten the the V-Spec by 3 seconds..

I think the ZR1's time will drop into the low 7:30's. Absolutely. But beat the GT-R's lap times? It doesn't seem likely.

Apr 28th 2008 7:00PM What are the dyno gains compared to a stock GT-R?

I ask this because posting crank horsepower claims on a car that is generating realistically 50 to 70 bhp more than what the manufacturer estimates is useless.

Apr 9th 2008 1:28AM Correct, 0.27 Cd to be precise.

I don't care if it's not pretty.

I saw one in person. Gunmetal Gray, with titanium wheels. In person, it looks mean, evil and purposeful. In person, it looks like it's going to swallow lesser cars whole. Simply amazing. Its presence is epic. Don't judge this car's looks until you see one in person, trust me.

Damn, do I want one.
