Solar Roadways update - things are happening with Scott Brusaw's idea {Autoblog Green}
Mar 7th 2008 5:55PM This sounds great to me. I think one of the major advantages to using the solar cell as the traction surface for vehicles to drive on is that we don't have to sacrifice more land (which is what you would need to do if you wanted to put solar panels next to the road). I have to admit that security is a bit frightening to thing about, but the concept sounds great overall. This would also make vehicle travel in general much more efficient with more electric cars, like the Xebra and Alias from Zap (www.zapworld.com) hitting the roads. The capacitors would also allow for power system grid surges throughout the day. Really neat concept.
Autoline on Autoblog with John McElroy {Autoblog}
Mar 7th 2008 4:57PM I love the "one box" concept. It is practical and when done right, attractive from an aesthetics standpoint. The new electric vehicles on the market are the most likely to take advantage of this line of design. Like the Tata Nano that was mentioned, similarly sized cars, like the Zap Xebra (http://www.zapworld.com), and the Zenn are perfect examples of using the one box design to achieve efficiency in design. Thumbs up to John McElroy too, I have a season pass to Autoline Detroit on my TiVo!
Geneva 2008: Lumeneo Smera tilting electric car {Autoblog Green}
Mar 6th 2008 3:26PM Awesome car! Sad that we will never likely see it on US roads, but it is still a very exciting project! In the meantime, though, we have the Zap Xebra (www.zapworld.com) to serve our immediate electric car needs.
Geneva 2008, a Space Oddity: Italdesign-Giugiaro Quantara {Autoblog}
Mar 6th 2008 2:06PM Have you seen the exciting electric cars available from Zap? Go to http://www.zapworld.com right now to see what they have to meet your needs. I recommend the Xebra or the Obvio, which do you like best?

Geneva 2008: BMW Vision EfficientDynamics diesel hybrid is a camel {Autoblog}
Mar 4th 2008 3:09PM These fuel prices are getting a bit nuts. My old Astro van that I use on occasion for hauling crap to the recycling center/dump just cost me about $60 to fill. It's nuts! The sad thing is, when I do use the Astro it is just me, and it's rarely full, I just prefer to toss the stuff without it building up. I have been thinking about getting a Xebra Truck from Zap to do the deed for cheap (http://www.zapworld.com). I can't see myself loading up a nice shiny BMW with trash though... I don't care how good the mileage is, I would never be willing to reduce it to trash hauling duties!
Geneva '08 Preview: 78 MPG Nano hits Europe within four years {Autoblog Green}
Mar 3rd 2008 3:09PM The stated 78mpg was with a two cylinder petrol motor, if memory serves me correct. You can get that type of mileage out of a gasoline engine so long as the rest of the car equates to an acceptable power-to-weight ratio and has a low drag coefficient. The only downside to the Nano is it is still a gross pollution device. Although they may not be as inexpensive as the Nano (and even if it does come to the US it's highly unlikely we will ever see anything close to the claimed $2,500 price tag), the Zap Xebra (http://www.zapworld.com) is a great alternative and is electric, so no pollution at all.

Mar 3rd 2008 3:01PM Didn't GM recently announce that there battery supplier is going bankrupt? So wouldn't that mean they would be able to at least take a vehicle to market while they are trying to play catch-up? I, too, think it is likely going to be Ford, but I wouldn't count GM out as an option either. In the mean time I recommend swinging over to http://www.zapworld.com if you need an electric commuter car right now.
