Subaru's Senior suggests STI Junior {Autoblog}

Feb 7th 2008 2:06PM I'd definately pay an extra couple grand for the STi fenders and wheels/tires that could fill them. WRX has plenty of power for me, but it looks plain. In reality, it would need to get a lot better mpg for me to actually consider one... so diesel boxer in STi body in the mid 20s and I'd put down a deposit today.

Ken Block jumps Subaru WRX STI off snowy mountain for mag cover {Autoblog}

Nov 7th 2007 6:49PM I watched that mythbusters, that is why I used that as an exaggerated example :)

Do you remember how out of control the plywood became? It went out of control because of the center of gravity being out of whack with the fulcrum, agreed?

How big of an affect is debatable. Obviously the car has more mass so it would take more to move it at the same rate. Imagine putting a piece of plywood perfectly balanced on a point and moving it up and down - now imagine doing the same with a subaru. You can still move the subaru up and down - it just moves slower with the same amount of force. Putting 200lbs, however, in the trunk of the subaru will definately make it move a significant amount in the time that car was in the air.

Nov 7th 2007 1:10PM re:why not the LS2/LS7?

Imagine you have to jump off your roof and you have a piece of plywood to help you slow the fall. Would you jump and just hold on to one side of the piece of plywood since all objects are affected by gravity equally? Or would you try to center yourself?

If you seperate everything out of the equation except the force of gravity and the opposite force from air resistance, the car essentially becomes a lever. There is a fulcrum where the force from air resistance is equally surrounding that point. If the car's center of gravity is at a different location then the fulcrum, the car is going to tilt.

FYI, they did put weight in the trunk to help prevent the nosedive.

Sheesh.

In the Autoblog Garage: 2007 4-door VW GTI {Autoblog}

Aug 28th 2007 1:35PM I'm so glad they decided to bring the 4-door GTI. The 2 door doesn't look nearly as good to me and isn't as functional.

Oldest VW diesel found in California {Autoblog}

Aug 16th 2007 4:21PM Ummm... TDI Toureg in California? Anybody care to guess how that works? Does that mean we will have them in Cali for 2008? Did I miss the news?

Seriously, gas isn't THAT expensive {Autoblog}

May 30th 2007 11:30AM Is it not true that fuel prices are a major element in inflation calculations? Higher fuel costs make everything more expensive, no?

RR of the Year: Poll results {Autoblog}

Jan 2nd 2007 11:40PM "This "spamming" issue is malarkey. A public website posts a public poll. This poll is linked to on other websites. Certain people see something that fits their taste. They voted. It's how the Internet works.

Unless one single individual rigged the votes, I'm calling this sour grapes."

Its up to individual sites whether such posts would be considered spam, but it is definately pandering for votes. I just feal bad for all of the other entries because a Saab fan inadvertently ruined this contest. Do you think polls only conducted on Hannity.com or Moveon.org should represent all Americans?

I was out of town during this poll so I didn't vote. I probably would have picked the jag because I thought it was a stunning car. If the Saab won by a normal margin, I would have been suprised but I wouldn't have given it much thought. But a landslide victory by a car that anybody who can afford to buy a car can go out and buy tomorrow? A landslide? Are you kidding me?!? So blatantly biased and unfair to the other contenders who were just thinking "Cool, my car might win Ride of the Year" and not "Alright, how can I get the most votes possible". I'm not saying anyone did anything wrong, its just a bummer it was a Marketing contest and not a Readers Ride contest.

RR of the Year: Poll results {Autoblog}

Jan 2nd 2007 5:55PM Saab loyalty, Saab community dedication, blah blah blah...

This was supposed to be a "readers" rides contest, not a pissing match about whose online community is bigger.

The saab won the online community pissing match, although it was the only player. The Jaguar won the Reader's Ride of the Year.

Next time, I think 1 of 2 options need to happen:
1) State that you cannot spam other sites pandering for votes. This option is good for the fairness and goal of the contest, but won't drive traffic to autoblog and will be hard to enforce.
2) Clearly state that spamming sites pandering for votes will occur, and if you want a chance to win you should participate. Good for traffic, but it will still boil down to who has the biggest online community and who has the most fans with time to waste to pander.

RR of the Year: Poll results {Autoblog}

Jan 2nd 2007 2:51PM "just because something is high in price doesn't mean it's high in demand"

Actually, it does if it ever sells unless it is also high in supply - which saabs are not.

Saabs are low in supply, and low in price, therefore they are low in demand. Unique and cool in there own way, but by far not overwhelmingly the best pick in this group.
