Apr 17th 2008 8:10PM In the late 90's in Arizona the state passed a huge incentive (40% rebate) for natural gas fueled vehicles. The idea was that everyone would go out and buy a alt-fuel Suzuki Swift and reap the moral benefits of clean living. What really happened was everyone went out and bought a Suburban that could, in theory, be driven on CNG as well as gasoline, with a vestigal CNG tank that was soon removed. The tab came to $600 million.
