New York Preview: 2008 HUMMER H2 gets more power, interior refinement {Autoblog}

Mar 27th 2007 1:46PM Raise your hand if you've ever seen one of these off road.

Me, whenever I see one on an empty street, I key it front bumper to rear bumper. Want to know who keyed your Hummer? I did. F*** You.

Mar 20th 2007 12:04AM #11: I'm pretty sure that #8 is joking, no need to get your panties in a bind. Ever heard the term "troll"? Maybe I could suggest something to calm you down a bit...

Just to correct a historical inaccuracy, #11 claimed that it was illegalized to give an excuse to harass mexicans. This was only a small part. The real reason was that a machine had been invented that could easily and efficiently thresh hemp and produce paper and many other industrial goods and fuels. This machine was introduced just as William Randolph Hearst, the newspaper tycoon, had just bought millions of acres of prime timberland to chop down and make paper with. He allied with other industrialists, such as DuPont, who sold the chemicals used to process wood pulp. Together, they manipulated government policy to further their own interests.

It was a clear case of government being subverted to help a few at the expense of the many.

Any "conservative" who supports the destructive prohibition needs to seriously reconsider what that political belief means - the root of conservatism is trust in individual self determination and free markets. Marijuana prohibition (along with all prohibiton) damages both.

Before it was illegalized, hemp was famously proclaimed to have the potential to be "America's first billion dollar crop" It's uses are varied - it grows like a "weed" and its sturdy fibers are great for everything from rope to clothes to newspaper.

The prohibition of Cannabis has made America a poorer nation - both economically, by depriving farmers of a highly versatile cash crop and raising the tax raise to arrest and jail smokers and merchants, and poorer in terms of freedom. The government has no moral right to attack any person who has not interfered with the property and rights of another person. For a governmental agency to take your liberty or property when it cannot prove you have harmed anyone is a crime, a crime that is committed in horrific proportions in America today.

It is hard to imagine the founding fathers supporting any of the current drug policy in America today. It is an all too frequent case of a bureaucracy becoming entrenched, and their paychecks becoming dependent on a policy which is simply wrong, wrong, wrong.

It is immoral, unjust, a waste of taxpayer money, and much more destructive to the lives and livelihoods of millions of Americans than the relatively benign (though potentially quite addictive) Cannabis could possible be.

Narcotics police are bureaucrats with guns, and they need to work as productive members of society.

Government needs to treat adults as adults.

Before it was illegalized, marijuana was quite popular with a small "hipster" segment of the urban population, along with some immigrants - but it was never a big problem.

The question is - why is it still illegal? Do you support it being illegal? Does anyone you know? Don't we live in a Democracy?

STUDY: Video driving games promote risky behavior in real life {Autoblog}

Mar 15th 2007 7:20PM I for one have definitely found this to be true. There was a period where I was not driving a car (only motorcycle) and playing a LOT of GTA.

When I got in a car afterwards, for the first couple months I was driving again, I drove like a f**&#ng HOON! I was squealing the tires every chance I got. I do notice I drive more recklessly after playing certain games, yes.

Old Bug charm: limited edition New Beetle Triple White arrives {Autoblog}

Mar 15th 2007 7:10PM There's a difference: A new "thing" would actually be exciting.

Ditto a new microvan.

I saw a recent magazine ad for the bug. It said one word:

"Fat."

Now, it's admirable to try to make fun of your own weaknesses. They talk about all the features, electronic doodads, and safety systems they added.

But they can't get around the reality:

They have added a bunch of junk which makes the car less fun to drive, handle worse, get worse MPG, worse acceleration, more expensive, more stuff to break, more expensive to repair, unable to repair at home, etc. etc. etc.

All so we can have more electronic doodads, which someone like me would never need.

Nice trice, vee-dub, but next time, try to not waste your add dollars on an ad which just reinforces to me why I would never, NEVER, buy ANYTHING with "VW" printed on it made after 1975 or so!!!

I'll pay attention again when I see an ad saying: "Thin."

The "new beetle" is an abomination. They should make a stripper version to try to bring back the purists. At this point, it probably wouldn't be enough.

PS Both my parents had wretched experiences with brand new Passats bought in the last few years. Steer clear.

Mar 13th 2007 4:53PM Glad to see that the same wasteful and stupid spending habits that ensure that poor southern blacks remain poor, that their neighborhoods remain ghettoes, and that they get pulled over and arrested more often is spreading to poor southern whites too.

That's my idea of racial equality :)

Wow, if I wanted to help the government steal $50,000 dollars from me, I can't think of a better way than driving around in a showy gangster looking car and carrying some weed or powder with me.

Likewise if I really wanted to invite a violent armed carjacking - this is the perfect car.

What do you do if you lose this car, and then you can't get to work at the railyard anymore to pay off the second mortgage you got to buy your chrome dumptruck wheels?

If you have real presence, when you arrive, everyone knows you've arrived. If you have zero presence, you need your car to arrive for you.

BTW, I believe this is technically a "box".

Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera revealed! {Autoblog}

Feb 27th 2007 3:51AM Who cares? Another car you will probably never see in your lifetime, much less drive. If you have the money to buy one of these, you're probably not sitting around reading autoblog.

I hate to be so cynical...but it's hard to get excited about the latest luxury coach for the prince of monaco and sultan of brunei when automotive technology as a whole seems to be generally stuck for the last eighty years (like if computers still used vacuum tubes). I'm more excited by vehicles like the MDI compressed air car, that's real innovation. This is just masturbation.

I'm sure it's fast as all get out, but is it more fun to drive than a 300HP Ariel Atom?

RR of the Year: Poll results {Autoblog}

Jan 2nd 2007 5:06PM One of my oldest friends down in New Mexico has a late '80s Saab, a non turbo two door..and damn, he bloody loves the thing. It has 350,000 miles and has never given him ANY problems in two years of ownership-that's amazing for a $500 car.

The funny thing is, he's a real speed demon- he's a motorcycle racer, with a tricked out 2001 CBR929, his last car was a '95 Trans Am which was fast as *&#$. So, the Saab is only his winter car- but he says just in terms of the overall driving experience and how fun it is to take around corners, he wants to move to Sweden.
