Next-gen Astra "world car" to cost GM $4.2 billion {Autoblog}
Apr 18th 2007 11:05AM How much of the €3.1B is for development costs, and how much is for tooling, manufacturing test runs, etc.?
Could Porsche force VW to unload Lamborghini and Bugatti? {Autoblog}
Apr 12th 2007 5:23PM Bugatti is pointless, but there is enough space within the exotic market for both Porsche and Lamborghini.
What the vast VW empire needs to do is reign in Audi's sprawling product line. Audi is starting to resemble Mercedes in its desire to have a product for every infintesimal niche of the premium car market. At some point this will bite them hard. And Audi's coupes are more direct competitors for Porsche than Lambo's boy toys.
VIDEO: Subaru Impreza and WRX strolling in the park {Autoblog}
Apr 9th 2007 11:45PM Crikey, that was so boring I wanted to take an icepick to my eyes just to make it end. The car was moving so slow it barely stired the leaves on the road. Slo-mo cars are ok when tires are smoking and full opposite lock is engaged. Otherwise, not so much. And what genius at Subaru ordered the clear "euro-style" Nissan tail lights? Effing lame. Did they turn over the design department to 16 year-old twits from L.A?
Ford developing new diesel engine, quickly {Autoblog}
Mar 27th 2007 1:27PM "It seems to me that Ford has plenty of experience in engineering diesel engines just look at the European line-up."
This would be a great point if it wasn't offset by for Ford of NA inability to engineer a smaller diesel for the F150 line, which people have been requesting for years, not to mention diesels for the Ranger and the car line.
Perhaps the head honchos will finally clear the way for the European engineers to come in and do the job. I'm not holding my breath.
New York Preview: Subaru Impreza WRX gets early release on cover of MT {Autoblog}
Mar 26th 2007 10:01PM It looks very close to the spy shots over on the other thread.
It looks remarkably like both a Mazda3 and a Toyota Matrix.
The front end is now terminally banal rather than offensive.
The eyebrow of idiot lights on the dash is stupid.
I dearly hope Subaru puts the diesel in the Forester before they decide to "improve" that model.
Mark Fields to white-collar crew: "How do you feel?" {Autoblog}
Mar 23rd 2007 3:08PM What a waste of time. Ford workers are likely to feel two things: smart ones will feel utterly irritated by how Ford management has't had a clue for the past several decades, and dumb ones will be happy with the way things are.
Instead of asking workers about how they feel, why not do things that will make them feel better. Like updating the Ranger. Like rushing through a B-class vehicle for the US market in the next two years. Like fixing relations with International so the F-250/350 franchise doesn't bite it. You know, things that competent management should be doing. Increasing market share would do wonders for Ford employees' feelings, I bet.
Crikey.
Kappa + Zeta = Alpha? Another GM RWD platform coming? {Autoblog}
Mar 22nd 2007 8:04PM About time. Any major manufacturer should have FWD/AWD platforms in the A through D classes and RWD/AWD platforms in the C through E classes. GM says it would like to think of itself as a major manufacturer.
2008 Subaru B9 Tribeca to bow at New York Auto Show {Autoblog}
Mar 14th 2007 8:33AM V-6? Sacrilege!
Actually, the Automobile article doesn't say V-6, just, "In place of the old 3.0-liter flat six, the Tribeca now gets a 3.6-liter motor." A 3.6L H-6 would be a natural evolution from the 2.5L H-4 in the Impreza.
VIDEO: 30-inch clear wheels can burn rubber, glad to know {Autoblog}
Mar 12th 2007 10:27PM What is wrong with people in this country? Whoever built that thing should do the world a favor and lie down in the path of one of the wheels.
The Girls of Geneva 2007 {Autoblog}
Mar 10th 2007 11:11PM A bunch of c-list models. Yawn. And I can't say I have much respect for a woman who chooses to make a living standing next to things.
