Meet the Beckers: Audi has fun at expense of BMW, Mercedes and Lexus {Autoblog}
Oct 9th 2008 2:03PM So, Audi proved they can make a video that accurately depicts the stereotypes associated with luxury brands.
Now, can they make a car that doesn't have electrical problems?
I don't buy cars based on image. I buy them based on the cost of ownership, and the driving experience. Audi definitely loses on the first criteria.
The Gumball 3000 comes through sunny Southern California {Autoblog}
Aug 11th 2008 10:11AM I caught the Gumball downtown San Diego. It was a great show, although there were some cars not present I would liked to have seen (atom, konigsegg, tesla). They had a Riviera and something else from the 70's lifted and rolling on what looked like 26" rims. That was cool. There was also a Veyron, a Noble M400, and an Enzo. The Carrera GT exhaust note was sick! I liked the Vette Taxi :) But, I'm from NY, so what do you expect.
London congestion charge has failed to solve congestion {Autoblog}
Aug 8th 2008 6:23PM You must be joking. The suburbs are a product of cheap oil. I haven't seen any of that around lately. As energy prices continue to rise, we'll have no alternative but to increase density. It's happening already. Many suburbs are building town centers so people don't have to drive miles to get a carton of milk. It's just a shame that we have to be forced into a more sensible, energy efficient lifestyle. Here, we don't take action until it's an emergency.
London congestion charge has failed to solve congestion {Autoblog}
Aug 8th 2008 3:15PM Quote from the article:
"Without the Congestion Charge the traffic problems in London would be much worse," said Malcolm Murray-Clark, TfL's Managing Planning Director.
"However, as a result of other interventions such as utility and construction works, the reduction in road space has had a detrimental impact on congestion levels and is slowing traffic down."
It's a bit disingenuous to claim the congestion charge has failed when the failure is clearly attributed to utility work and construction. According to the article, the congestion charge clearly reduced the number of vehicles entering the city center.
I support congestion chargies and increased gas taxes as measures necessary to combat the problems we face, including overtaxed infrastructure, air pollution (including carbon), obesity, etc. I've seen many criticize the congestion charge as some sort of socialist measure. The gov't provides incentives for all sorts of things. We encourage home ownership, surplus crop production, business startups, etc. Congestion charges are no different. We have a common problem, and it is but one tool in the government's arsenal.
If anyone has better suggestions that don't include road expansion, I would be interested in hearing them. I exclude road expansion because in the long run, it only improves throughput, not travel times.
GM considering all-electric Volt to meet Cali requirements? How about no battery? {Autoblog}
Apr 27th 2008 7:39PM We have a name for the Volt in the software industry. It's called "vaporware." Congrats GM, you've taken a page from the playbook of one of the most successful companies on Earth--Microsoft. Now lets see you make Microsoft money.

To kill a minivan: kid-haulers a dying breed {Autoblog}
Aug 13th 2007 7:46PM I think image is the only thing hurting the minivan, because they are supremely practical. My wife and I discuss replacing our Accord with something larger regularly, since we're crammed with our family of four whenever a visitor shows up. Her only opposition to the minivan is its image. I think there's a market for compact six seaters like the Honda Stream and JDM Odyssey.
Officially Official: Subaru releases full details on 2008 Impreza {Autoblog}
Apr 3rd 2007 8:00PM I think it resembles the BMW 1-series. I have to say, I think the current 9-2x is better looking. I'm not impressed.

How low will your car go? EPA offers 2008 mileage comparison tool for older vehicles {Autoblog}
Feb 23rd 2007 9:45PM I for one am happy they updated the testing method. My 2000 accord was rated at 23/30, but I NEVER saw those numbers in three years of driving. The new rating of 20/28 is spot on.
Another day, another Ferrari crashed {Autoblog}
Dec 19th 2006 6:32PM I used to feel bad that these ferraris were being destroyed. When I saw the autoblog post on ferrari maintenance, I realized that these cars are high priced pieces of $#!^. What good is an exotic if it can't even be driven reliably? I wish Honda was really into the super car thing. In the meantime, give me an Ariel Atom.
