Michael Schumacher making motorcycle helmets now {Autoblog}

May 12th 2008 5:02PM I have to wonder about the choice to bring this to market. It takes some time to refine a helmet to the levels people will expect of a Schumacher-branded design and the market is already fairly full.

VIDEO: Sometimes it's best to quit while you're ahead {Autoblog}

May 5th 2008 2:55PM Thanks for the spoiler warning for those of us who haven't seen the race yet. This happened on Friday and it took until Monday to post? For any other reason than you wanted to include Lorenzo's finish position in the post? Autoblog does fine at warnings for mid level car racing, but can't be bothered to remember for MotoGP?

Officially Official: BMW S 1000 RR race bike {Autoblog}

Apr 17th 2008 11:43AM I'm excited to see BMW in world superbike, and hopefully AMA, but a podium next year is pretty aggressive. That will take hiring a top level rider as well as building a machine capable of competing with the Japanese bikes which have been doing it forever.

I'm actually a little disappointed in their decision to make it an I-4. There are already four very good Japanese bikes that use the same configuration and have much more experience building race bikes. I would have liked to see a larger 2 cylinder engine or possibly a V-4. Give Ducati a bit more competition in the oversized twin category. With the current WSBK regs it's obvious that a two cylinder bike is more than competitive, given the extra displacement they get.

BMW has always made quirky bikes, and this just looks like yet another liter class I-4, probably the most populated displacement/ configuration matchup in street bikes.

Ford shoots for 100,000 Flex sales a year {Autoblog}

Apr 11th 2008 12:53PM I didn't realize so many people had such different tastes from my own. I would be very surprised if they could hit that number without a fantastic looking vehicle, which I don't believe this is. Especially when you consider that we're entering a recession and this will be marketed towards the people hardest hit by one... I just don't see it happening.

Dealership employee totals 2008 Dodge Viper {Autoblog}

Apr 1st 2008 11:14AM According to the thread, which of course no one read, he didn't get fired and he's not paying for the damage. He definitely SHOULD have been fired, but I guess the owner decided otherwise.

Dealerships have insurance precisely for situations like this. It's not like the kid would be able to pay for that sort of damage anyway. The original poster suggested that he might have to pay the deductible, which seems fair.

Qatar wants a grand prix, too {Autoblog}

Mar 28th 2008 1:04PM It's in the middle of nowhere, there aren't any racing fans nearby, the track is too hot for tires during the day, too cold for tires at night, lighting doesn't work as well because the track is so wide, and the track isn't particularly good for motorcycles. The home straight is very long, the turns are too wide, and not complicated enough. It's a much better track for cars than for bikes.

Mar 28th 2008 9:04AM Hell yeah, let them have it. If they take away the MotoGP round there, even better.

New IRL rule weighs heavy on Danica Patrick {Autoblog}

Mar 27th 2008 9:56PM MotoGP suffers a bit from this problem. The series definitely favors petite riders. When the machines are significantly lighter it makes rider weight much more important.

I do have to take some issue with the statement that "it has been estimated that a 65-pound weight difference could mean as much as a 1-mph advantage during a race." Is this estimate derived from an average speed for a full lap for two drivers? It seems more accurate to compare power/weight ratios for the full rider and machine. I've heard it said that on a motorcycle losing 14 pounds equals an additional 1hp. I don't know if it's accurate, but it seems like a more accurate comparison of lighter and heavier drivers.

Build your own Tata Nano. You know you want the sticker package. {Autoblog}

Mar 27th 2008 9:48PM I think there's a problem with the site. I don't see a "type r" decal in the options. How can I be seen driving a car that isn't race-spec?
