Green Genesis Coupe shows up, 286 hp turbo DI engine nearby? {Autoblog}

May 6th 2008 10:13PM seeing as this family of 4cylinders is related to and shares components with not only the mitsu Evo's but the SRT-4s engine was well, I see no reason why hyundai (with help from partners) couldn't be ready for direct injection. Its clearly the way (for now) that most companies are going, and it would allow hyundai to be on the leading edge of that trend. However I do not expect to see this in the genesis coupe becuase there would be no reason to buy the V6 with only aprox 10 more hp.

As for v8 Hyundia already said it won't fit in the gen coupe.

Vanishing Point Challenger meets tire wall at Road America {Autoblog}

May 4th 2008 1:35AM ok, a number of things need to be adressed here.

First, the two drivers of the car. Both are accomplished SCCA road racers as well as multiple one lap competitions (last year was a grand cheroke SRT-8, year before was 300C srt-8, year before that was SRT-4 (neon))

Next. Look at ANY coupe that is based off a sedan. The coupe weighs more 99% of the time. Infiniti G37 coupe is 3600+ lbs, but the sedan is 3500+. I know you all think stripping weight is easy, and it is. Buts its also VERY costly to swtich the steel unibody to aluminium, which may save 150-200lbs (see Jaguar XJ, when it switched to aluminium it saved around 200lbs. After switching materials your left with dropping options. Who here is going to pay $40,000 for a stripped out challanger? If you think droping the options also drops the price its not always that way, especially if they are using new lighter materials in the body.

Here you have REAL car guys. They saved a preproduction prototype from the the scrap yard, how many other manufactures do you see allowing their engineers to do ANYTHING like this?

I would not expect this to cause any delay in production becuase as mention this was a prototype, not the finalized production version, I am sure they had the suspension geomatry changed on this car (more - camber, some toe out in the rear) not to mention possible aftermarket parts (all their other entries in years past had things like coilovers, exhuasts, intakes and the like)

Adam Carolla's audition drive for Top Gear (not really) {Autoblog}

Apr 24th 2008 2:01AM Half of what makes top gear is whats not said, just the reactions and faces all three make. People don't honeslty watch these shows as thier only means of reasearch to buy a car.

I think Corolla can make a car show work, but I don't see him coming up with the crazy contraptions that the top gear guys do. The americanized version has to have the same zany stunts as the real version or it is sure to fail. I want to see cross-state races cars vs. ANYTHING they can find (I know we have speed limits but that just adds to the challange). I want to see them turn basic econo boxes into rock crawlers, anything as long as its unique. Don't just rehash what the Brits have already done.

Spy VIDEO: Lexus LF-A sounds as mean as it looks {Autoblog}

Apr 22nd 2008 11:14PM could have cut-outs like the Z06...Anything other than full throttle is nicely muffled, ut floor it and the exhaust dumps open to allow straight through flow by passing the mufflers.

As for CAFE not liking this, I can imagine the low numbers of this car (if it is actually ever sold) will keep it safe from altering Toyota's CAFE numbers all that much.

Mar 27th 2008 11:47PM check your facts, less than .5V can seperate hydrogen from oxygen in water. I have made scale fuel cuel vehiles (they sell kits for science classes. If it took that much energy those little cars would not work.

New York 2008: Top debuts of the show (w/ Poll) {Autoblog}

Mar 23rd 2008 12:22AM Turbo I4 Genesis coupe with opt. LSD, Xenons and the standard 6spd manual please. Yes it looks a lot like a g37 (not a bad thing in my book) and with standard things like bluetooth, Ipod conectivity and USB ports, and all for an expected starting price in the LOW 20's!

I just hope the brembo brake package becomes available for the I4 as well, so far it seems to be SE (top of the line) only with the 19in wheels.

Hyundai launches site for Genesis Coupe {Autoblog}

Mar 23rd 2008 12:15AM I wouldn't count on it being much less than maybe 3200lbs. Anytime you use a sedan as a base for a coupe the coupe is rarley lighter, and in some cases heavier than the sedan (look at G35 sedan and G37 coupe..same chasis but the coupe weighs more). Or even the Challanger from Dodge, I think its like 100lbs lighter than the charger its based on.

The interesting thing is that while the I4 alone is way lighter, with all the turbo and piping for intercooler, it may not actually be all that much lighter. But one can sure hope. Either way, count me in for a turbo I4 with the optional limited slip and standard 6 speed manual!

Hyundai launches site for Genesis Coupe {Autoblog}

Mar 22nd 2008 3:19PM well the 3.8 is a Lambda so its a retuned azera engine...45 more hp and like 10 more Lb/ft. Azera weighs 3600lbs and I would hope the genesis coupe is closer to 3300lbs, so I think the azera ratings of 19/28mpg would be similar

New York 2008: Hyundai Genesis coupe, LIVE {Autoblog}

Mar 21st 2008 3:56PM at this point its all guess work on weight becuase Hyundai has not offically released those specs just yet. As iposted before, I would hope no more than 3400lbs for V6 and 3200 for I4, while still relatively heavy you cannot forget that this car will have 6 airbags, as well as all the other weight adding saftey devices (thick steel door beams, extra bracing in the chassis to make up for cutting up a sedan chassis). I don't think it will be hard to see 300hp outta the I4 in the aftermarket, and a 300hp, 3200lb vehicles would have darn nice performance!
