Spy Shots: VW "Robust" pickup {Autoblog}
Jul 25th 2008 10:49AM Yes yes yes. Offer this pickup in the USA, with the new CRD, and they have an instant winner IMO.
All one has to do is look at fleet Sprinter sales to see there is a viable market here for such vehicles, at least commercially.
Although I have to imagine that quite a few retail owners would love to have something like that.
If I needed a new truck right now, the only thing I would consider is a Ranger/B series. Everything else is bloated crap.

May 15th 2008 12:51PM Lane's Camaro only got #47? WTF!
That should have been top 10. Such a sweet ride.
And @Kevin, agreed!

All we have left is the Ranger & B-Series. The "mini" trucks I had in the 90's all got upper 20's on the highway, and could take a beating like no other!

Pontiac Solstice Coupe to pack 300 horses? {Autoblog}
Apr 3rd 2008 4:08PM That is hilarious.
Do you really think the GXP/Redline compete head to head with any MX-5? I like both cars, but come on - the price points are markedly different.
Base GXP = 28k (+adm)
Base MX-5 = 20k (no adm)
Call me whenever Mazda decides to release the next Mazdaspeed MX-5. We can then appropriately hash out the magazine racing argument.

Apr 1st 2008 11:10AM Uh oh, another load of anecdotal evidence on the internet.
I'd have to drive WOT in 3rd gear on the highway to get 13 mpg. Or I'd have to be on a track wringing it out good.
Simply put - to get that sort of mileage, your friends car had something wrong with it. Clogged cat, bad injectors, blown headgasket - something. Miatas do not get 12mpg on a regular basis - especially not on the highway. Not even FI Miatas get 12mpg!
Get over yourself and maybe listen to those who have (first hand) knowledge about the cars. I am certainly not an "expert" on a lot of things, but I absolutely know my way around the Miata.
The bottom line is your bud's anecdotal evidence is not nearly a large enough sample size to come to any sort of conclusion, other than he needs to service his car - and soon.

I know of people who get better than 12 mpg during track days.
Hell, I get 20+ driving like a complete maniac in my NB. I have seen 33+ driving like a grandma.
Pick a better example, because unless your friend was driving around with the e-brake on, he/she is full of brown smelly stuff.
Lane splitting - should it be legal? {Autoblog}
Mar 21st 2008 11:29AM There is nothing disrespectful about lawfully splitting lanes.
You realize you sound like just another bitter cager who is mad that the guy on the bike got over at the long light or in traffic.
As Kimball noted, you too can get on a bike and split lanes and enjoy the time savings (but only if you live in CA). I'd highly suggest taking an MSF course before embarking on that journey, though.
My wife used to do a 20 mile each way commute daily through traffic - rain or shine. That commute takes well over an hour in the car, but on a bike and splitting, it took around 35 minutes. Typically, she saw the same other riders daily and they would hook up and run a slow moving chain through the cars. As an added benefit, she always got a great parking spot as the motorcycle lot was never crowded and much closer to the buildings.
If one had to run the same commute in a cage, I could easily see why one would be quite jealous.
