May 12th 2008 3:09PM I don't understand the purpose of 8 plus gears on cars. If you're going to put this sort of gearing in the car then make it so the car is under 2k rpms at 80 mph or so to really help improve fuel efficiency.
I don't understand the point of these gearboxes if they don't improve performance or efficiency. Thus...what is the point?

1) Safety - Noted above by several others
2) Practicality - If I want wireless web access, I'll buy an iPhone or PDA....why would I pay for access for my car only?
