Meet the Beckers: Audi has fun at expense of BMW, Mercedes and Lexus {Autoblog}
Oct 9th 2008 2:13PM I've owned a BMW for less than a year and it bugs me to no end that people do stereotype us this way. I've actually had people threatening me in parking lots just for parking near them with a BMW to show off or some nonsense.
I bought a BMW for dirt cheap, because it was the most sporty car I could find for under $2000 appropriate for a daily driver. It sucks that there's no stereotype for those who actually give a damn about what their driving (or give a damn that they are driving) as I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Helio Castroneves indicted on tax evasion charges {Autoblog}
Oct 3rd 2008 12:11PM Does putting a man in prison and supporting all his needs for 35 years really cost less than he missed in paying taxes? That's just ludicrous. Here's a good idea for punishment: pay back the taxes.

Bush administration needs more time for new roof strength rule {Autoblog}
Oct 3rd 2008 12:08PM The solution is rather easy. The Bush Administration should not be deciding how to go about doing rollover protection (side-curtains, pillar strength/materials/etc). They should be mandating the safety itself. Something like:
During rollover, vehicle structure should be able to support x lbs of weight in addition to the weight of the vehicle on any one pillar. Any deformation of the pillars or roof under this weight should not intrude into passenger space more than y inches or be within z inches of a typically size 95% male occupant. And finally, the car should be able to complete a 70' slalom with 5' offsets at some particular speed.
Let the manufacturers figure out how to accomplish the goal. No one in politics should be writing the how or be concerned with the technology involved or necessary.

Le Mans organizers to ban V10s and V12s from LMP1 in 2011 {Autoblog}
Sep 26th 2008 8:20AM I think I'd rather just see displacement limitations than cylinder count limitations, but I also think this could be interesting to really distinguish LMP1 and LMP2 again. With LMP2 being production-based engines, they'll be more prototypical in terms of chassis development. LMP1 can be both and maybe that will up the level of manufacturer commitment to the class?

Volt's EPA rating could be cut by new standards {Autoblog}
Sep 8th 2008 9:13AM GM's really just got to market this right. They shouldn't be depending on EPA ratings here, because there are going to be people who get nearly infinite gas mileage with a Volt and there will be people who spend a lot of time running the engine for one reason or another. Ultimately, there will be different mileage ratings for different people and they've just got to sell it that way. It's unique (for now), which makes it a marketing opportunity, not a drawback.

Things that never were nor ever should be, Part II: the Dodge Caravan "CarCamel" {Autoblog}
Aug 26th 2008 9:20AM Wow, I'm incredibly jealous of this tow rig. I wish I could have one of these to move my autocross car around rather than driving it hours to events.

Ford launches 2010 Mustang countdown site, reveal coming Nov. 19 {Autoblog}
Aug 15th 2008 1:05PM I was under the impression the 2010 Mustang was basically a refresher of the current generation without much changing. Am I wrong? It should be nice to see something come up to compete with the growing muscle car market, because it seems like the Mustang will fall behind quickly without something new soon. I just didn't think 2010 was the something new generation.

Jun 26th 2008 11:19AM I've seen him at the Devens National Tour. That 318i wagon has actually got an M3 engine in it though, making it an extra fun tow rig. ;-)
