SSC (allegedly) to produce the world's fastest electric supercar {Autoblog}

Jul 16th 2008 7:15AM I expect the Eliica is the fastest production electric car thus far. Be interesting to see what kind of two seater supercar you could make with that technology. Keep the 8 wheels though. They probably only used 8 because they couldn't make wheel motors powerful enough to get the horsepower in 4, but it's still awesome to have 8 wheels.

Jul 16th 2008 6:39AM They can do this. They're quite capable of making a solid car that goes very quickly. All you need is to source the right components (presumably they'd get another company to provide electris engine parts, rather than a normal engine). They can obviously do all the other stuff required already- like making a complete, quality car with a capable chassis etc. What they really need for the record is better aerodynamics and/or more power than the current fastest electric car. Guessig that that's the Tesla, which is fairly small- stick a huge electric lump in the SSC and that should do it!

For the truly insane: 1800-horsepower Mosler MT900S {Autoblog}

Jul 10th 2008 8:51AM Drag goes as the square of speed, but remember also that power equals force times speed. So, like the guy said, if you want to go twice as fast, you need 8 times more power.

Therefore, if you have 3 times the power you go 3^(1/3) times faster, neglecting other factors. It's the cube root - as in 2 is the cube root of 8.

Jul 9th 2008 9:40PM What's the top speed on this thing? Could probably make a decent estimate knowing the figures for the standard car. I don't suppose it'd be eligible for a production car record.

From the web, it seems the car can do 211mph with 600bhp. With 3 times the power, it shoot be able to go the 3rd root of 3 times faster - 300mph!

Jul 7th 2008 7:41PM Can you provide a link to something about the Atom lapping in 6-53? I can't find it anywhere. Thanks.

Jul 7th 2008 7:36PM I suppose the Radical isn't listed here because it isn't road legal outside the UK. Think it could be, the the costs of paying for the tests is prohibitive or something.

I have been wondering for a while how the Ultima would do on the ring. It's probably the fastest supercar with a roof there is. Can't wait for them to get a sunny say.
