VIDEO: Autocar pits the Caterham R500 against a Ducati {Autoblog}

May 15th 2008 10:04PM People continue to race bikes vs cars, always with different bikes and different cars. Here's the story: Cars are faster. It really comes down to grip because cars have 4 fat tires and bikes have two very skinny tires. I enjoy watching them as much as the next guy, but at the top end cars will always win. Now, start talking performance per dollar and the battle swings the other way. That car costs 50K+ and the bike barely 13.

From the Awesome Files: V6 Miata auto-x weapon {Autoblog}

May 11th 2008 8:19PM I own a Miata and I would go with a turbo charger, but I have admit that v6 sounds awesome. I too was wondering about the low power, though. I've driven a turbo 1.8 that put down over 200 hp and some people on the miata forum have build engines engines with 300 rwhp and up.

That said, the uniqueness is definitely appealing and autocross is an arena that rewards balance and control rather than power.

To everyone saying the miata is not a sports car: drive one. Also, I'm personally not a huge fan of monster miatas, but the entire conversion only adds around 250lbs and yields a ridiculously fast car. I remember reading someone got a ls1 miata up to 180mph!

May 8th 2008 12:14AM If it ends up looking like that and packing a DI turbo four, I might actually buy it. A soft top would seal the deal.

Is nissan planning on adapting the GT-R's transmission for other vehicles? Because this with a dual clutch 'box would be a dream come true for me.

Fuzzy logic has Cadillac CTS-V producing 567 horsepower {Autoblog}

Apr 28th 2008 2:05AM I don't care either way. I still really want a CTS-V and I still can't afford one.

Miata? Impractical? BAH! {Autoblog}

Apr 27th 2008 4:09PM I've never carried a sofa, but I've hauled 10' lumber, a mini fridge, and even a 5x3 sheet of plexiglass. Not to mention piles of suitcases, and camping equipment. If you're creative and adventurous, a Miata can be very practical!

Pics Aplenty: BMW M3 Convertible {Autoblog}

Apr 26th 2008 12:07AM To those dissing on convertibles: First, my roommate just put a hardtop on his Miata and the handling difference is negligible. The open top is more visceral and there's a certain thrill to the wind blowing around you. Not to mention you've got a great view of the stars. That's why you buy a convertible, not for the image!

Ferrari split as Formula One goes hybird {Autoblog}

Apr 24th 2008 3:15AM What most of you have completely ignored, is the fact that hybrid powertrain has benefits beyond reducing emissions. Recovering energy from braking increases fuel efficiency and reduces wear on brakes. Some form of regenerative braking makes a ton of sense.

New York 2008: Audi Forum hosts debut of Hunt Slomen custom-painted A5 {Autoblog}

Mar 21st 2008 7:48PM Why does everyone on this site hate on every single modified car, fail none? There is always at least one "how dare they trash such a beautiful car" and numerous posts bemoaning the modifier's complete lack of talent. The purpose of modifying a car's appearance is to look unique and to stand out from the crowd, not to appear stock!

@alexdb9
I challenge you to what sort of artwork you could create with a spray can. I guarantee nothing even close to this.

Have a little respect for people with different tastes than you?

All that being said, I think the shape of the "flow" is a little off and I wish some of the photos actually showed the detail work.

Audi R8 V12 TDI has a "50/50" shot at production, gets driven {Autoblog}

Mar 15th 2008 12:51AM @psar,
You have some excellent points and I would agree with everything up until you began bemoaning the TDI's narrow powerband. In terms of percentage, TDI engines general exceed that of most gasoline cars, except perhaps big bore v8's. Diesels require significantly different driving practices because you manage shifts off speed, not rpms and that might not appeal to the high end sports car sound. The R8 TDI won't be a screamer but 700+ lb/ft of torque would be enough to make it one of favorite supercars.
