Dec 19th 2009 2:28PM I stopped at rubber core...can you imagine how damp the turn initiation would be? I remember when the original 1080s came out, they had a foam core and even that was garbage. I'll stick with my $650 Volkl Bridges. They get the job done just fine.

You're right in that mismanagement is to blame, but that includes mismanagement of Union expectations. The UAW should have been made aware years ago that their demands simply weren't sustainable. The American auto industry isn't (and hasn't been for a while) in position to give the Unions the pay and benefits they want without dramatically reducing profitability.
It's not to say the workers don't deserve to be well-taken-care-of, it's just that the companies can't pay the current union wages and benefits without it hamstringing the ability to invest in other areas of the company (i.e., up-to-date styling and design quality).

Dec 4th 2009 7:34PM I have to say, though I'm not much of a GM Corp fan, this is a pretty classy way to handle the situation. It would have been easy to cite 'driveline failure as a result of abuse' on all of these claims. It's nice to see a manufacturer do the right thing.
Of course, it'd be nicer to see a manufacturer build a drivetrain that doesn't fail...
