SMS to tune Challenger, SMS 570TM and 570XTM on the way {Autoblog}
May 13th 2008 1:29AM I could see the Challenger being compared more with the 6-Series. Both are V8 RWD coupes based off of large sedans.

May 6th 2008 9:08PM Now that I'm thinking about it. I'm hopeing this car becomes the new "corvette to have," which would allow me to pick up a Z06 on the cheap. Sure, it might not be as fast as a ZR-1, but for something to mess around with on a nice day the Z06 is plenty.

May 6th 2008 4:40PM 2,000 units world wide?
I'm guessing we'll probably see a starting price in the $200,000 range. *sigh*

May 6th 2008 3:33PM My guess is the G8 GT and G8 GXP's times are traction limited. Therefore, the one who gets the most grip and least slip gets the best time. Even with an automatic it requires a bit more skill than say, a GT-R, where the car pretty much does everything for you.
My bet is, with better rubber, you'll see even better times out of these cars than what the magazines are reporting.

GM releases details on upcoming 4.5L Duramax turbo-diesel V8 {Autoblog}
May 6th 2008 2:24AM I'd buy one. It would be a lot like owning a classic big block vette; low revs and stump-pulling torque. However, unlike a big block, it would probably get pretty good fuel mileage.

May 5th 2008 8:58PM mroverlord,
Keep in mind this engine may also find its way into 3/4 ton, 1 ton, and other larger commercial vehicles. In those applications it would get better fuel economy than the current larger Duramax, but still have almost as much torque. It might be a bit overpowered for a half ton, but if they brought out an engine with, say, "only" 300ft-lbs, it might be fine for the half-ton trucks, but then they might not be able to use it in the larger trucks. With this engine I bet they can use it in anything the current duramax is in, all the way down to cars.
On a side note, my 1995 diesel suburban 2500 has a 6.5L diesel making about 200hp/400ft-lbs tq. It's fine unloaded, but it just isn't enough once you load the truck up and have a 6,000+lb trailer in tow. Being my truck is about the same size and weight as a 1500 today, I'm going to say that 400ft-lbs isn't really enough, at least not with a four speed automatic.

May 5th 2008 4:36PM An engine for a car or crossover SUV needs to be built differently from a truck engine. A truck engine has to be made to handle more abuse and to last longer. This usually requires that they be somewhat detuned.
