Earnhart Jr: 27 million US a year
Jeff Gordon: 23 million US a year
Tony Stewart: 15 million US a year

Those are F1 pay checks and will inevitably attrack the best drivers in the long run as the redneck walls come down.

2007 Mazdaspeed3: C-segment zoom-zoom is here {Autoblog}

Sep 2nd 2006 9:33PM "will someone please tell me the need for that awning over the backglass that threatens to become pandemic?"

I read somewhere it's to improve speed/fuel economy by reducing the sucking effect at the back (it changes the turbulences in that area). Almost all hatchbacks have been sporting this for a while now.

Barabus TKR: 0-60 mph in 1.67 secs, 270 mph top speed {Autoblog}

Jul 21st 2006 1:35PM I'd like to see the tires able to handle 270 mph from a heavy road car. They must be using slicks to acheive that number for the 0-60.

Juan Pablo Montoya leaving Formula 1 for NASCAR {Autoblog}

Jul 10th 2006 11:53AM Watch out for "The Big Juan"!

(you have to say it out loud to find the funny, and, err, know what "The Big One" means I guess...)

Although I have to say, he might be chubby for F1 but he's an anorexic model compare to say, Tony Stewart.

GM invests another $170 million in shift to six-speed automatics {Autoblog}

May 31st 2006 8:57AM A 4 speed auto might be at home performance wise with a high torque V8, but I'm guessing they are aiming for fuel economy. Anyhoo, if it can give the perception that GM is not stuck in the 80s anymore than it worths it. Perception is everything.

BTW, Lexus will have an 8 speed out soon. IMHO every car will have CVT (infinite number of speeds) in 20 years.

Last bit, somewhat OT, but since people talked about manual vs auto performance: the 997 Turbo is much faster with the auto box (3.4 auto, 3.7 manual 0-60). It might be a special case (using turbo pre-boost between shifts), maybe not if more and more car uses turbos for fuel economy and/or performance.

How about a $9,000 car wash? {Autoblog}

May 5th 2006 9:32AM I guess it's for those who want to send their cars to car shows or have their own personal car museum. In other words it's not for cars that are actually used. Otherwise it's pointless to pay $9K for full blown detailing IMHO.

Motorcycles getting second looks as gas prices rise {Autoblog}

Apr 28th 2006 5:28PM I was barely doing 15 mpg (imperial gallon) with my stock RG500 when the throttle was mostly opened. But I'm sure a 125 cc single cylinder 4 stroke could do close to 100mpg in fuel saving mode. So choose your ride and ride to save.

Toyota recalls new Camry for transmission issue {Autoblog}

Apr 26th 2006 10:06AM Obligatory lame GM joke:

So it's a 4 speed now, just like a GM!

But kidding aside, one half of one percent means it's most likely not a design problem but an assembly problem or a bad batch of parts supplied by an outside source.

BP launches $16-a-gallon fuel! {Autoblog}

Apr 26th 2006 8:55AM I used to drive to the airport in my youth to get super high octane gas for my high compression motorcycle racing engine. It was pricey, loaded with additives, and you had to buy large quantities. $20 a gallon is about right for the convenience of easy to get racing gas IMHO.
