James Garner recovering from mild stroke {Autoblog}
May 15th 2008 7:22AM James Garner is a man's man, and a great actor. I watch Grand Prix at least once a year, and the DVD was one of the best presents my wife ever gave me.
Much like the uncles I revere from my youth, Garner is one guy who I will always think of as 35 years old.
Get well, Jim.
Volkswagen to offer three-years of free maintenance on 2009 models {Autoblog}
May 13th 2008 7:32AM I must have gotten the only A4 GTI 1.8T that didn't go wrong (63,000 miles). My first GTI (1986) was as tough as nails and nothing ever went wrong with that one either. But this "carefree" maintenence is really marketing hooey. It means nothing. Gimme the 10 year, 100K powertrain warranty like my 01 1.8T had.
Rumormill: BMW diesels on sale in the U.S. mid-October {Autoblog}
Apr 22nd 2008 11:15AM I find it interesting that so many people are more concerned with the cost of the fuel rather than the satisfaction of the drive. Don't dismiss the effect torque -- and lots of it -- can have on your life.
It's the same thing I told my ex about why I bought a BMW -- because I wanted the driving experience it provides. I wasn't worried that I could get better gas mileage or a bit more trunk space in some other car.
Not only do I think the diesel Bimmers will be successful, I think most of the new diesels coming out will be.
Takuma Sato Gets New Seat {Autoblog}
Apr 17th 2008 10:23AM Funny posts about Taku and Super Best Friends. On-the-edge racer or not, Takuma is one of the few characters in racing today. Unfortunately, one of the others, Montoya, has chosen to run the chitlin' circuit with the good ol' boys.
Ferrari sends Marlboro logos to the ashtray {Autoblog}
Apr 17th 2008 10:12AM The John Player Special Lotuses were what got me into Formula 1. Damn, those black and gold cars were awesome! I wonder how much quicker they were because of their livery...
But my all-time favorite cars are the Marlboro McLarens from the Senna era. Those things were simple, effective and stunningly beautiful.
Spy Shots: Lexus readying race-prepped LF-A? {Autoblog}
Apr 16th 2008 7:13PM Before Lexus releases it as a racer, maybe it should release it in the dealership...
This is just as ridiculous as the gestation of the Camaro.
Rendered Speculation? Is this the new BMW 7-Series? {Autoblog}
Apr 16th 2008 7:01PM The greenhouse makes it look like a bloated E46. Thank God it's only a rendering.
VW Rabbit is the new top-researched car on Gaywheels.com {Autoblog}
Apr 16th 2008 8:45AM When did the GTI become the "iconic" gay car of the 80s? It was an icon of a high-performance hatchback, not sexual orientation. If gay people liked it, good for them, but I never considered my GTIs as "gay" cars -- they were performance cars.
First Drive: 2009 Honda Pilot {Autoblog}
Apr 16th 2008 7:54AM That grille reminds me of the old show "Ultra Man."
Show Time: TAG Heuer unveils eight new driver's watches {Autoblog}
Apr 16th 2008 7:47AM The TAGs and a lot of the high-end watches are beautiful to look at, but dang, it's getting harder and harder to just look at them once and quickly decipher the time of day. Your eyes are attracted to all the other elements on the watch. It takes me ten minutes to tell someone the time because I'll start playing with the chrono or trying to watch the oscillator work or the power reserve meter wind down. It's always something, but never just the time of day.
Oh well.
