Jul 8th 2008 8:13AM The Ultima isn't a "kit car." It's merely sold that way to beat some expensive US Federal requirements that would otherwise make it impossible for Ultima to afford to sell its car on these shores.
They're not some huge car company - they're a small, boutique manufacturer trying their hardest to survive in the dog-eat-dog world of automobile regulation.
As for why the ZR-1 hasn't been listed as official, I'd guess it's because GM hasn't done an "official" run. They simply quoted lap times from practice runs. There was no independant third-party present to verify the numbers.

The parallels are there though, I suppose. Unique and exotic design. Exotic, high-revving engine. Incredibly balanced (though more forgiving) handling. I've always said the RX-8 was the cheapest exotic on the market.
Still...let's hope the owner is being a smart-ass and not seriously posing as a Ferrari owner.
