Wiimote triumphs over Weemote: A small business sob story {Nintendo Wii Fanboy}

Jul 26th 2008 1:19AM Solo.. No, it looks like I was still thinking of trademark

http://www.snopes.com/cokelore/gum.asp

If the Wiimote people stop using Wiimote in any way shape and form for 5 years, there's a chance that they could lose it (or more specficially, someone else has a chance to take it), but as it's still a product that they sell, nobody's going to lose anything.

Also, how is the Wii Remote blocking people from buying a child's remote. It's probally boosting sales more than anything. It's not Nintendo's fault that nobody wants a Wiimote anymore.

New York governor signs 'unnecessary' game law {Joystiq}

Jul 26th 2008 1:13AM Vcize.. really? Your local gov't is enforcing a blue law? Well, I guess it's Aol/Weblogs's duty to report your IP address and send you to jail.

And I could apologize for misunderstanding that you were specifically talking about claiming her as a dependant, but your chick is a lazy freeloader, and you are a pompus twit.

Oh, and age does not matter.

One MPG is not enough: Automakers desperate to make a gallon go further {Autoblog}

Jul 26th 2008 12:56AM Frylock.. I drive a small, nimble car with a LOT of structural reinforcement, a low center of gravity, 6 airbags (2 that stay inflated longer in case of a roll-over and help protect the rear seat passengers), an engine that's designed NOT to enter into the passenger's area, automatic door unlock and automatic engine shutoff.

The least safe I have ever felt in a car/truck was in a Dodge Durango. Why? Because I knew that there was NO way for me to avoid getting in an accident that was caused by someone else's stupidity. I was hoping that a kid didn't run out into the street chasing after something, or there would be quite a stain left on the road. On the other hand, I have been able to avoid accidents in my MINI because it goes where I want it to, without flipping over, and not the other way around.

Yes, the amount of metal in a large SUV can absorb more impact, but it also HAS to absorb more due to the size. For a perfect example, see this:
http://bridger.us/2002/12/16/CrashTestingMINICooperVsFordF150/

Yes, you really cannot compare the two tests directly, but the Ford F150 has a lot more energy that it needs to absorb tha the MINI. The MINI can handle it, but this model of Ford, could not.

Either way, again, I KNOW that I've been able to avoid accidents in my car. I've done it before, and I'll have to do it again. Accidents that would have sent me to the hospital if I had been in the Dodge Durango.

The problem with large SUVs is that you have the perception of safety, without any of the benifits. That makes for a sloppy driver (not you specifically, but in general). See this
http://www.capmag.com/article.asp?ID=4938
for an example. (But no, I think that you're an idiot for not wearing a bike helmet, but hey, crack your skull open if you want). If you don't feel like reading the link, here are the money quotes:
"And here's another unintended consequence: Now that I wear a helmet, I feel safer, so I ride in traffic more often. Economists call this the Peltzman effect — people adjust their behavior in ways that counteract the intended safety effect."
"In 1972, the FDA passed a law requiring child safety caps on many medications. It was supposed to keep kids from being poisoned by drugs like aspirin. But there is an unexpected side effect. Because safety caps are hard to get off, some people — particularly older people — leave them off, and some parents, feeling safer with the cap, leave the aspirin where kids can reach it.

A study of this "lulling effect" concluded that an additional 3,000 children have been poisoned by aspirin because of the regulation."

A false perception of safety causes more accidents. People in a large SUV have a false perception of safety, that you yourself have admitted to: "It can't avoid situations as well as a car can."
There you go. In your own words, you are more at risk for an accident.

Project Runway: Grass is Always Greener {TV Squad}

Jul 25th 2008 4:23PM Suede's dress, while VERY well constructed, looked costumey. It looked like a zombie/mummy dress with all of the strips of fabric.
Blayne's was awful in a bad 80's workout way.
Jerell's dress looked like something out of a Penthouse photoshoot. Sure, some of the dresses were short, but at least they didn't have flat pieces of fabric covering the chest.

The last season that I truly enjoyed was 2 seasons ago. I still watch it, but it's not that I care who stays in, but who goes home. Although Chris did grow on me last season, but that was because he was a total underdog.

Jul 24th 2008 4:49PM No, she's not a dependent because she's an adult (i hope) who is separate legal entity. Once you become married, you are now a single legal entity.

I thought that had been proven as an urban legend by more lawyerly types.
