Wii Fanswag: Wireless nunchuk, Perfect Shot and Frontman guitar {Nintendo Wii Fanboy}
Mar 31st 2008 1:36PM My house went on the market a few months ago and is now under contract. I'm packing up my entire life to move in with the in-laws for 4 months (while the new place is being built).
That's 4 months that my wife, our 2 dogs and 2 cats must exist in a 4 bedroom house with her parents, cat and two dogs. Did I mention that we're going to have to sleep in a double bed? Yeah. I'm a 300 lb guy. I outgrew double beds like 10 years ago.
I need all of the gaming goodness I can get my hands on to preserve my sanity for the next 4 months. In particular, the front man guitar would let me rock out with a friend instead of playing the slow jam by myself.

Wii Warm Up: At last, your love has come along? {Nintendo Wii Fanboy}
Jan 22nd 2007 10:46AM I've been following the story all week and planning an elaborate strategy with my bud on how to assault. I have to pause and laugh at myself because I really am too old for this. Still, it was worth it.
We ended up agreeing to meet at Circuit City at 8. 8 am, there was a couple in line and someone else pulling up just as I was. We got out and got in line. My buddy showed up and joined me. I was #3 in line. They let us know right away that there were 12 consoles to be had. That was nice because I knew I had scored before I even wasted time. One guy in line said he checked the manifest and it said they had 16, but the store kept 4 for the employees. How nice.
People slowly trickled up. One guy said he tried target but they had nothing. The consoles were all sold before the store even opened up. A sign went up saying 12 were in the house. Vouchers went out shortly after 9, and the sign came down and was replaced with "Temporarilly out of Wiis".
We all trickled in to make our purchases at 10. No controllers or Zelda (WTF?). We ran to Target down the street only to miss out on the last controllers. Got Zelda there. Tried another Target with no luck. I gave up and went on to run an errand while my friend hit the walmart across the street.
No charge on my phone, so he ripped into the parking lot with a controller to catch me and tell me they had plenty more. We rushed BACK over there and I got the controller rounding out my initial package.
I have to love my wife for putting up with my nonsense. In the end it was worth it. The Wii is everything I could have hoped for and more. We both stayed up late playing Wii sports and making Miis. I touched Zelda a little, and even tried out the Wiiconnect with my friend. I was surprised to find out how quickly our consoles linked up. I sent messages and a Mii his way. One of his that was set to mingle wandered over to my Wii. How awesome is this?
I can't wait to see the online functionality in full, and I have to say that all of my questing and coming up empty handed was well rewarded with a fantastic and satisfying experience of obtaining the new baby. Nintendo will decimate the current gen with this console. Of everything I've played, nothing comes close to the fun factor of this system.
Gratz to all those who turned out and got a Wii. Many many MANY thanks to Joystiq and Wii Fanboy for hooking up the story. I would have never known except for my constant surfing of this site. Without you we are lost! Keep up your hard work gang. There are many who appreciate it even if we don't often say it.

Jan 17th 2007 1:32PM I tapped in my zip code, and got a big fat "NOT OFFERED" across the entire state and into the next. Guess that's a big fat NO for me. Wonder if I can try and follow up like #3. Thanks for that idea vidGuy!
Wii Warm Up: What's driving the Wii's success? {Nintendo Wii Fanboy}
Jan 13th 2007 10:32AM I think there are a number of things leading to the success of the console. First is the controller. No explanation needed.
Secondly, I think word of mouth advertising is doing its job better than Nintendo could have hoped. What they were wanting to see was gamers buying the console for the cool controller and the blockbuster titles like Zelda. Then, they take it to friends and families, let them play the bundled in Wii Sports, and that gets them craving the system. It's the same effect the DS had.
Lastly, they're getting additional marketing pluses from some of the quirky issues that have come up with the system. The best example of this is the wrist strap fiasco. It made news all over the place, and my parents, who don't know the first thing about the system, now know all about it because of broken straps allowing controllers to go flying breaking TV's of the faithful. Why would controllers be moving around like that in the first place? Why would you need a wrist strap on a controller? I must know more! Now I want one for my own! See what I'm saying?
I myself don't have a Wii yet, but I'm hoping to get one as soon as supply issues are resolved. In my city, they are selling out within 30-60 minutes of them hitting the shelves, and store employees are often admitting openly that they're grabbing units for friends and family that want them. That's not leaving much for the rest of us, and until supply catches demand, many of us will be left in the cold.
That is also playing into the mystique of the system. People are driving all over town looking for consoles at every store each day. If you're in a store and 5 people cone in in the span of 5 minutes asking for a Wii, you're going to get interested in just what it is and why there aren't any to be had.
That's my $.02
