Facts on the ground may push NHTSA to toughen CAFE rules {Autoblog Green}
May 18th 2008 3:06AM Wow, the author bashing is a little more severe than warranted... my bad I guess.
The truth is the current government has done a HORRIBLE job when it has come to making assumptions. However, this failure hasn't just been limited to the executive office. Both sides of the aisle on Capitol Hill have pretty much sucked at seeing things coming whether it be high energy prices, never ending wars, or Gulf Coast hurricane disasters.
Hell, coporate America and the everyday consumer have pretty much missed the boat as well. I'm not a big fan of the current administration but they do deserve a bit of a break when it comes to lack of foresight.

May 17th 2008 6:38PM I still don't see why the boys at Chrysler discontinued the Neon. Now they are left stuck without a small sedan for the US market at a time when they desperately need one.

May 17th 2008 2:48PM "This, of course, is consistent with the quality of most of the assumptions made by the current administration and totally unrealistic."
Come on, Sam. Great article, spot on, but it really didn't need the political bias.

May 16th 2008 6:49PM It could be the whine from the DC to AC inverter. These can make a lot of noise, are usually high pitched, and their frequency is related to the rotational velocity of the motor.
That's my guess.

Chrysler kills rebadge of Dodge Journey to work on small car {Autoblog}
May 13th 2008 2:50PM I completely disagree.
The interior of the Journey is what sets it apart entirely from the rest of the vehicles in its class. The storage capacity in the thing is incredible, there are compartments everywhere! There's even a removable cooler. The two tone look is modern and the materials are on par with their competitors, finally.
It's been cliche to blindly criticize Chrysler family products for crummy interiors for a while now, but they really did step it up with the Journey.
Toyota loses patent appeal for technology in Prius {Autoblog}
May 12th 2008 6:08PM Historically speaking, Toyota officially began making cars when Kiichiro Toyoda built the first Toyota, tha A1, by copying the Chevrolet 65 horsepower straight-six and copying the chassis gearbox and styling from the Chevrolet Airflow.
So there is some validity to that statement.

"Couldn't it be counteracted by an opposite rotating twin?"
NO. That would have nothing to do with the gyroscopic effect. The gyroscopic effect pertains to the reluctance of a rotating mass to change its plane of rotation due to its angular momentum. An opposite rotating twin would increase this effect by adding more mass spinning in a parallel plane.
This opposite mass would aid in preventing an overall torque with an axis perpendicular to the plane of rotatation from being exerted by the flywheel system while its accelerating and decelerating but that's not the same thing.
20,000 people express email interest in buying a Chevy Volt {Autoblog Green}
May 8th 2008 1:43PM I iMiev is not in the same vehicle category as the Volt. Besides being all electric the iMiev is a sub-compact and is fairly ugly. It's very similiar to the "punishment cars" that the guys over at Tesla Motors talk about wanting to do away with.
The Volt is not a "punishment car" and the folks at GM have been very clear that they want to design something that looks as good as it performs.

May 7th 2008 4:50PM I'll take one for $40,000 on coolness alone, but when it comes to performance this car is worth way more than that. People pay a lot for performance in an automobile. Performance is more than 0-60 times and horsepower. This car will have a stat that no other production vehicle can match, 40 miles of all-electric range... that's performance.
Look at the cost of vehicles who are stat leaders in other areas and the price of a Volt seems dirt cheap in comparison.
