BMW 5-series gets regenerative braking, but not why you think {Autoblog}

Jan 13th 2007 4:27PM Ya'll gotta learn some English, kids...

The title should read:

"BMW 5-series gets regenerative braking, but not how you think"

Oh yeah, hire a proofreader.

Detroit Auto Show: Lexus IS-F pics leaked! {Autoblog}

Jan 8th 2007 2:34PM All the "classy" EuroIron scoffed at the LS and now everybody is scrambling to catch up.

The IS is now going to lay some bigtime hurt on their sports sedans.

It'll happen.

The reason they probably don't have a stick is I don't think they have a gearbox capable of that. Their last beefy gearbox was the 6 speed Getrag in the 93-98 turbo Supra. If enough people demand it though, they'll offer it. Just like they didn't offer the manual when the IS first came out.

I think they're (stickshifts) a little tougher to get past EcoRegs.

eBay Find of the Day: "New" '73 Volvo P1800ES {Autoblog}

Jan 5th 2007 4:33PM > You'd expect that being owned by a dealer, this car would have undergone rigorous maintenance with blue-box parts, we're just not sure where they found a tech with the patience and understanding to keep this older beast going.

Isn't that just a little dramatic?

I'm sure a tech (or receptionist) at a Volvo store (with full docs and parts) could be found to work on it.

Environmentalists threaten autobahn speeds, again {Autoblog}

Dec 30th 2006 5:25PM Although actors, actresses, entertainers, leftists politicians and social sciences professors agree that man is causing the end of the world, real climatologists do actually agree that the earth is warming. But they can't say exactly why. There's tons of hypothesises, but no consensus. That coupled with the slight percentage that comprises man's contribution. Gases from cow sphincters are now thought to be greater than man's contribution. A little funny, but a hugely embarrassing example on how little data we have on the entire phenomenon. And with the limited knowledge we have... we'll let's just shitcan our entire economy (although Kyoto lets China & India dump all the stuff they want - reeeal smart). Sorry, carbon footprint too big.

The only real solution that they dare not speak is a severe depopulation. Instead, they'll just hound your work-a-day ass until you're in too much of a stupor to argue back and you'll just accept Chairman Gore's Ecological Revolution. You can sign up now, there are plenty of roles on the "winning" side of this Revolution: Politician, informant, lawyer, meddler, "activist", AutoBlog Green contributor, poetry slam competitor, browshirt, keyboard monkey with a social conscious. Join the fun!

Dec 29th 2006 2:17PM Seriously, this is a great idea. Slow down for mommy earth!

If they were serious about saving the planet (which I'm told my many scholarly scholar-types), we'd all ride bicycles.

Actually, that's a lie. If you work, eat, or live, your carbon footprint is too big. Hybrids are a joke. Do you know the amount of resources that are required to build a hybrid? Bying a Prius is like rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic.

All your frantic puny efforts will fall woefully short.

We must embrace the final solution - now.

If you're SERIOUS about avoiding the catastrophe called Global Warming, go to the kitchen and get a SHARP knife. Slit your wrists in the back yard (so you can feed the plants in your last unselfish act).

Too radical you say? Eh, you know the line: "How do you boil a live frog?" Slowly.

Dec 22nd 2006 3:29PM As a dyed-in-the-wood France basher, they have always earned my respect with regards to cars. These guys always come up with innovative and amazing technologies. From Peugeot's 6 valve shocks (best in the world) to Citroen's hydromatique suspensions to Renault's F1 pneumatic valves that allow for unheard of RPM levels, French cars are like none other. I only wish PSA would make a real effort to re-enter the US market with zeal.

People who gripe about gas prices
We as a nation pay anywhere from $1.00 to $2.00 less than the rest of the world. maybe if you had to pay $5.00 per gallon for basic unleaded, you'd think twice about getting the huge, pointless SUV.

Those countries that pay that live under a socialist system. Be careful what you wish for.

Nov 28th 2006 4:29PM Citroens are the coolest cars ever made.

All other cars* are snoozers in comparison.

* excluding exotics (Ferrari, Bugatti, etc.)

That's a fact!

Survey says autos experience gender bender as they age {Autoblog}

Nov 21st 2006 12:34AM I've owned scores of cars and consider myself to be a certified "car nut", but I could never anthropomorphize a car - give it a name and gender.

The whole phenomenon is beyond me.

Are cars getting more affordable? {Autoblog}

Nov 12th 2006 2:18PM > i am old enought to remember when you went to the doctor and you paid for it yourself but thanks to price and wage controls put in by the federal govt companies started to give health care insurance as a way around the contols to give wage increases.

Ding. Ding. Ding. Motorman is the winner. Health care is hurting to the extent "third parties" are involved. Look at the areas that are not covered by insurance. Plastic surgury, LASIK, Homeopathic, etc. These areas are booming and price is not come crass item beneath the vaunted medical professionals. It's an integral part of the process. LASIK prices have fallen by nearly a factor of 10 since it's introduction. You don't see them clamoring for a "Department of LASIK", do you?

Capatalism. Works everytime it's tried.
