Land Rover, Jaguar get Chinese order for 13,000 vehicles {Autoblog}

Mar 4th 2009 9:25AM Yes, I think details are sometimes missed on AB in the interest of speed to the ethers.

Lesson: Read the original article referenced rather than rely only on the AB post

Land Rover, Jaguar get Chinese order for 13,000 vehicles {Autoblog}

Mar 4th 2009 8:15AM Er,... 13,000 isn't 20% of 251,000 units. Remedial Math, anyone?

Steve Saleen celebrates 25 years with 720-horsepower anniversary Mustang concept {Autoblog}

Jul 8th 2008 2:15PM It has an embossed "Saleen" logo on the rear bumper, which begs the question of what the remnant relationship between SMS and Saleen actually is... because if the front fascia/grille doesn't cause serious heartburn at Saleen, then the logo definitely would.

Solar panels to power accessories on next Toyota Prius {Autoblog}

Jul 7th 2008 8:08AM The 1992 Mazda 929 had an optional moonroof with solar cells embedded it that powered a fan to exhaust hot air from it while parked. Not as powerful as these will have to be, obviously, but it is interesting that we've seen the application of solar cells before (not just recently).

Saleen Gurney Edition Mustang arrives at dealers {Autoblog}

Jun 16th 2008 4:32PM Kick-off party for Gurney Edition?

Was there champagne a-spraying? THAT would have been the only way to launch such a car, especially since The Man, himself, was there.

Special bonus points if A.J. (no, not Allmendinger) had been there.

GM seeking Chinese suitor for HUMMER? {Autoblog}

Jun 16th 2008 10:20AM I like this idea and would go one further...

Rather than sell it off, turn it into a vehicle developed specifically, platform-wise, for developing markets (say to yourself, "Thailand", where trucks are big business). Combine that with green tech and Hummer's "go anywhere" positioning and you might have a compelling counter to the idea that you have to be a pig to go off road (the idea of which is actually counter to the very reality of going off road, on a number of levels).

And, BTW, Isuzu might be a great partner in this endeavour, just as they are for the Thai pickup.

Ultimate bling: Saudi man chromes his Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano {Autoblog}

Jun 13th 2008 9:35AM I was thinking the exact opposite... with the water drops enhancing the reflections (love the way water beads up on the chrome of my cars) and, alternately, the effect of airborne sand on the finish (nothing worse than scratched, pitted chrome).

And, BTW, a Ferrari painted any color that was a National racing color (when cars were painted as such) is cool... which is why the NSX yellow used to be called Spa (as in -Francorchamps, the site of the Belgian GP). So, yes, give me a Yellow Ferrari (especially a 365GTB) and I'd be pretty giddy.

The traditional sports car Yellow, BTW, is known as "Fly Yellow"; When you see a car in this color (see 365GTB above) parked on a lawn (as in at a Concours), it's usually covered with flies. One of those bits of trivia that adds up to nothing but means a lot, nonetheless...

Spotted in the wild: 2009 Lincoln MKS in Ann Arbor {Autoblog}

May 23rd 2008 11:52AM Nick,
Gotta go with you on this one...

Somewhere else on this board, I posted our NYPD fave but am still surprised to see further mention of NYPD here. For those out of towners, this should be enough to look for NYPD (and try to find a parking space, at least curbside) when in town.

Spotted in the wild: 2009 Lincoln MKS in Ann Arbor {Autoblog}

May 23rd 2008 11:47AM While you're there, stop over at NYPD, get a slice or two (or, better yet, order an Artichokes, Black Olives on Pesto-hold the Tomato Sauce... mmmm,... good...)

So, anyway, the MKS is a car that needs to have a dedicated platform flagship above it, from which it gets it's image halo. Without the pressure of being "it" for Lincoln, it might be a decent enough vehicle but, without it (and assuming that it won't even have an exclusive strangle-hold on it's drivetrain, at least for long), it's going to have a very tough time having legs in an uber-competitive market.

On the other hand, I can hope that this car will result in better Taurii in the future, perhaps even an SHO (which would well & truly kill both this and any attempt to make Mercury a bridge between a plebeian Ford and an aristocratic Lincoln).
