Mar 16th 2008 1:25AM 110/90 Mbps is incredibly slow...
Was MBps actually stated, or is it actually MB/s?
If it really is 110Mbps, it must be using extremely slow MLC.
3G iPhone: is June launch now inevitable? {Engadget}
Mar 6th 2008 3:58PM Travis, I read this piece of info from another site, and it made sense.
"If you're patient enough to wait for a 3G iPhone, you're patient enough for Edge on the iPhone."
That said, as long as you're in a decent coverage area (I am in the S.F. Bay Area, so pretty good coverage here), Edge speeds are definitely acceptable. While it isn't blistering fast, it is fine for mobile use. I am also in WiFi coverage most of the time (work and home), so I am not restricted to Edge as much as I thought.
I told myself before buying the iPhone that I knew a new one is coming in 2008, and that I would sell my current one when the 3G one came out, then buy the new one. Now I'm not so sure. I am not tied down to a contract (ZiPhone rocks), and I really like the phone. Plus, Edge isn't as bad (in my experience) as everyone said it would be. I'd have to do a side by side and see how big the difference really is (and how the battery life will be effected) on a 3G phone before making the switch.
Do some research and make a decision for yourself.
3G iPhone: is June launch now inevitable? {Engadget}
Mar 6th 2008 3:48PM I was waiting several months for a 3G iPhone, but I got tired of waiting and picked one up shortly after the 16GB was announced.
Speculation from "very reliable sources" have been saying a 3G iPhone was coming "very soon" ever since the iPhone was released. Has it been released or announced? Nope. You can find hundreds of posts from other blogs regarding a 3G iPhone announcement in September 2007 during that Apple Event, then January of this year at MacWorld, then supposedly this SDK event, and now this June's WWDC? So far, nothing.
While I truly believe a 3G iPhone is coming out later this year (as said by the ATT CEO), June could be a safe bet for the product announcement, and then a release in the Fall/Winter. FCC will surely leak it months before release, and we all know Apple would prefer to announce before its leaked.
Meanwhile, I think I'll hold on to my current iPhone until the new 3G phone is JailBroken and easily unlockable before buying one, maybe a month or two after release.

Mar 6th 2008 3:37PM I think he just means version 2.0 of the iPhone's OS. After all, this press event was about the iPhone thats out now, and the applications thats capable of running on the current handset.
Simply put, instead of 1.1.4, it'll be 1.2.0 (or something similar), not necessarily a new handset.

Mar 6th 2008 2:25PM While digital zoom on dedicated digital cameras is useless, I would LOVE to see Digital Zoom on the iPhone. Before you say pinching/stretching is the same, listen.
Emailing photos from the camera roll on the iPhone will only go out in 640x480 to the recipient. If I can use Digital Zoom to get "closer" to my subject, the subject would appear more clearly as the main subject in the 640x480 shot that was sent, as opposed to 640x480 of the whole scene, where the subject is "far away". Either give me digital zoom, or give me a way to crop a certain part of a picture in the camera roll before I send it out.
Other than for email use, I have to agree, it is useless. But for that reason alone, it should be there.
Olympus rolls out high-speed Type M+ xD-Picture Cards {Engadget}
Jan 23rd 2008 4:22PM There is nothing wrong with the Olympus DSLR Bodies (besides the funky 4:3 Sensor). Image quality and features are good, but its more about the lens lineup that is lacking compared to the competition is what makes it hard to recommend.
After some time, when more lenses come out, it may change my mind, but at this time, Canon and Nikon have an established lens lineup covering many different bases.

Jan 23rd 2008 1:57PM You're right, its great for consumers who already have a camera from Olympus/Fuji and don't want to buy another. However, this M+ does not resolve the issues, limitations, and flaws that was in the previous cards. In the end, its still a junk format. Also with limited flexibility in other consumer devices (what else uses xD?) compared to SD, higher price point, this format is just silly.
It is not that Olympus makes bad devices with terrible build quality, it is just a matter of why recommend an Olympus which uses a silly proprietary format when better and more flexible Nikons and Canons are at the same price points? There is nothing exceptional from Olympus.
Also, several of the Olympus cameras (non DSLR) have image quality issues, and I know Fuji is taking a step in the right direction by using better sensors in the point and shoot market for image quality. Something I give much applaud to. I wish other manufacturers would also step up.
I wasn't aware Fuji was making dual slot devices, and I have no problems recommending a particular model if they have an SDHC slot available with decent image quality. I would say the same for the Olympus camera, but I am not aware of any of their point and shoots which meet the criteria above.
There is just no point in recommending an Olympus Camera over other manufacturers such as Nikon or Canon in the point and shoot market (and hell, even in the DSLR market too).

Jan 23rd 2008 12:30PM xD is a terrible format for many reasons. Confusing compatibility issues for most end users, low capacity, slow speeds, and the awesome ability to kill the card just by formatting it in a PC.
Slow x 1.5 = Still slow
End the silly format and avoid Olympus/Fuji cameras!
