Jul 17th 2008 11:53AM In Russia, SUV's are actually necessary in many areas due to snow and ice. Second, their oil/gasoline prices are state controlled like in China. I believe they pay only a fraction of what others like ourselves pay. It's nice not having to depend so heavily on others.
Russia is the next automotive battleground since their economy is flourishing.

They answered this question a long time ago. If they were to make something similiar to the Prius, they would be losing money off the bat. There's no way a small company like Tesla would survive. Even GM has came out stating that the first generation VOLT will lose money as well.
They had a choice between making something expensive and marking it up quite a bit to create profit or make something for the average Joe and lose money. If you were a small company which would you do?
With that being said, Tesla may still go under. They have produce perhaps 2 cars so far. I wish them the best of luck but I haven't seen them able to deliver what they promise yet.
