Aigo MID tested, ported to a real OS {Engadget}

May 16th 2008 12:52PM What I LOVED was that the "real" OS has no driver support for:

The camera (can't take pics)
WLAN
PCIE
Audio
Video

and Multiple resolutions don't work

But it's a REAL OS.... please.. give me a properly working linux installation that wont bog down because it doesn't know how to properly work on 512MB of RAM (when was the last time you tried running XP on 512 and didn't feel like gravity testing your box!)

Aigo MID tested, ported to a real OS {Engadget}

May 16th 2008 12:47PM I third that, it was actually a very quick and very thorough unboxing and review

First Intel Atom based MID gets priced -- $1131!? {Engadget}

May 13th 2008 12:34PM I think it will heavily depend on the OS. The N8x0 looks good on paper, but Maemo is annoying as all to deal with on a regular basis and the first looks at Ubuntu Mobile are far more promising.

The specs may be slow for an MID running Vista, but that should make Ubuntu Mobile and full browsing quite zippy on this thing (which can't always be said for the N8x0)

Saab halts next 9-3 development, may radically downsize next-gen {Autoblog}

May 10th 2008 11:16AM That is a bit ridiculous, the 9-3 was going to be the small car on the 9-5's old platform. I know cars have gotten bigger, but man I am just happy this happened so you don't have whale sized "compacts"

"Hello dad, I totaled your Ferrari - what time is dinner?" {Autoblog}

May 5th 2008 2:48PM How does driving a beater for 3 - 4 years translate into handling a 425 HP light weight Ferrari?

I think that would actually be worse, because then the kid would THINK (like most people on this board) that they have a better understanding of driving and push more than a scared kid going for the first time.

HTC Advantage X7510 gets unboxed, still baffles us {Engadget}

May 5th 2008 10:11AM It's more PDA than an MID (mobile Internet Device is) so it's for those people that constantly complain about Nokia NOT putting a GSM radio in the N800.

The advantage of this over say an e90 or X1 IS the screen. With proper VGA resolution you get correctly formatted websites without the constant need to scroll all the time to get the information. This is really useful for casual browsing, keeping track of your schedule, movies, games, etc.

Windows mobile may not be a "real" OS to some, but it is by far the most popular to develop on and they have more programs running on it than S60, UIQ, and Maemo combined. The limitations of the OS are repeatedly broken down by a very active community of enthusiasts ( check out XDA for proof), and the configuration options (with a little elbow grease) are plentiful.

I use more data and txt than actual cell phone minutes, so the size of this doesn't matter, besides I can just use a bluetooth deadest and leave this in a backpac or pocket. I currently have an n800 running OS2008 but like this device because it offers a slightly bigger screen, more software options, a gsm radio (so I can actually be connected all the time), and a camera (for those "look at that" moments) that is actually useful.

The negative side is the pricing or expected pricing of this as it puts it well above EEE + smart phone or N800//n810 + smartphone range which isn't the place for this to be. If this was sub $500 we would see this type of thing be a lot more popular. Also, no loud speaker? No Mic? I can understand deterring people from using this as a cell phone, but this with stand and front facing camera would be awesome for video calling (a feature the N800 can actually do).

So if you are looking for a device that has a screen large enough for you to visit text heavy sites without scrolling every 5 seconds, can play a variety of music (different codecs have been made available for the winmo platform) a variety of movies (same thing), keep your life synced with outlook or google (there are some nice google wireless sync programs for winmo), games, and still do data anywhere you would normally have signal, all in a small package that can be tweaked for performance or style: You have this option

JCL Aston Martin Tourbillon: the Supercar of Watches {Autoblog}

Apr 25th 2008 10:03AM ...and for you they made that "fast japanese family sedan" comment. You could have stopped reading there and not had to make a comment that makes you look silly for complaining that a mechanically beautiful watch can't double as a cell phone / mp3 player.

Funny how you don't see people that love these types of watches complain that the latest iphone/iwatch doesn't have a turbillion, exposed gears, excellent craftsmanship and as such is "high price tag boring watch".

There are some more beautiful skeleton watches out there, but I do love the style of this one.

Adam Carolla's audition drive for Top Gear (not really) {Autoblog}

Apr 24th 2008 7:12AM Did anyone else notice that they didn't once talk about the car while on track? Is there more of this clip that we are missing because .. I'd rather here a joke in between telling me how the car is (Clarkson style) than the other way around (I am assuming what happened in the rest of the clip).

It's a clip of a car review without a single bit of review in it.

Amazon Kindle is back in stock {Engadget}

Apr 20th 2008 4:20AM That's pretty much how the skit played out. It was partially funny the first time they spoke, but got exponentially less so as it went on ..

.. fierce...
