LA 2007: 2009 Lincoln MKS brings new look to American luxury {Autoblog}

Nov 14th 2007 9:01AM This thing took forever to come out, and it looks like everything else. The taillights are uninspiring. Where are the LED headlamps? Visteon has patents on them? Would have been nice to keep lighting innovations like on the last Mark.

The Lincoln logo should have been the side repeater lamp, but that costs too much - blah blah.

I think the CTS is too busy but at least its distinctive for now. Most cars look the same anyway, except for the 300.

I just think the Lincoln brand is too far gone to be saved at this point. Maybe they should make one ultra luxury model and call it the Lincoln - that's it, and make the rest Mercurys. Like Imperial in the old days.

That will keep the L-M dealers happy and prevent these Infiniti clones from pretending to be new Lincolns.

SEMA 2007 Preview: Dodge Dakota MX Warrior {Autoblog}

Oct 24th 2007 8:29AM Is it me or does the Dakota look more like the Ridgeline now?

Some orange graphics, orange dials, half an orange steering wheel - better keep racing kid.

You could just drive thru a puddle of orange paint and get the same effect.

No manual option for the 2008 Pontiac G8?! {Autoblog}

Oct 18th 2007 8:46AM Typical GM. Why can't they offer the full line of options from the get-go? Same thing with the CTS, it had an old V6 at launch, a year and a half later, it got the better V6 because "it wasn't ready" WTF? Arguably the most important Cadillac in the last 10 years, and it launches with the same engine you can get in a Chevy? Atrocious.

And GM wonders why generations of Americans have never owned, much less ridden in, a GM product. I think a lot of kids today think GM only makes cars for rental companies. That might be a useful strategy down the road.

And when the manual finally arrives for the V8 G8 GT, or whatever scrabblicious name the car has, I bet it will have that 1-4 lockout like the GTO came with.

Those guys down at the Tubes better smarten up fast. I bet if there had been a convertible G8, it would launch another 2 years later! Like the G6 GT V6! Or is it V6 G6 GT? Or GT V6 GT? Whatever....

BREAKING: STRIKE OVER! GM, UAW reach tentative deal {Autoblog}

Sep 26th 2007 8:10AM Great. I won't have to watch video clips of starving UAW workers who are worried they won't be able to make their boat/cottage/seadoo/RV payments.

I'll have to put all my canned goods away that I was going to drop off. Canned yams anyone?

VW says Adios! to Auburn Hills - move to D.C. confirmed {Autoblog}

Sep 4th 2007 8:26AM They won't move to DC itself, likely in NOVA - northern VA, probably out near Dulles/Herndon. Maybe even a bit farther out, like Winchester. I can't see them moving to MD "the ghetto state".

Also unlike to relocate south of DC down I-95, too much traffic and congestion there, not as much open land.

They may try somewhere in western Prince William, too. But not in downtown DC. They need space for parking, storing cars for events, press, etc. Can't do that downtown. Plus, they make cars, the last thing they want is all their new employees taking the Metro to work every day.

Volvo aims for BMW {Autoblog}

Aug 10th 2007 8:26AM I think both the S40 and S60 should be 5 door hatches. The trunk lids are so short, you can't fit much in them that isn't a thin rectangle. But at least ditching the S40 sedan for a 5 door is a good idea. Makes the car more useful, and flexible, and it looks like a hatch now anyway, like a lot of sedans with the high rump look.

They need to keep the diagonal bar - IDs the car from far away, ties into the trucks too.

I don't know if it's a good idea to copy BMW. BMW buyers are not likely to switch to a Volvo. Probably better to go after people who rotate luxury models, like Acura, Audi, Lexus, Infiniti. Those people aren't that brand loyal as BMW people, in my experience. Some people like something different every 2 years.
