The man behind the mask: Top Gear's Stig stares back {Autoblog}

Feb 22nd 2008 4:24PM You've got sharp eyes man! After reading your comment, I also think it could be Jenson Button.

Renault makes Alonso highest-paid driver, will earn $2.6 mil per race {Autoblog}

Feb 21st 2008 12:49PM This article is full of crap.

1. Kimi makes about 50 million dollars a year at Ferrari.
2. Hamilton made very little money last year at Mclaren because he was a rookie and Mclaren had supported for more than a decade. I think he made (only) a million or so. He just re-signed at Mclaren for that juicy! deal.
3. I find it really diffcult to believe that 46 million dollar amount for several reasons. Alonso is not the hot shot commodity in F1 anymore after his theatrical performances at Mclaren last year. He was trounced by a rookie, Lewis Hamilton. Yes, Hamilton is a top driver but it was not just Alonso's driving. It was also his attitude at Mclaren. He was constantly the source of annoyance in the team because he could not accept the fact that he was beaten by his team mate. I would not be surprised if there were cheers from the Mclaren garage this year every time Alonso has a DNF. Also, Alonso backstabbed his own team in the spy scandal which cost Mclaren 100m dollars + intervention by FIA on the way Mclaren's car was designed for 2008 + humiliation + sponsorship troubles+etc.... The other teams are not stupid enough to believe that Alonso will not do the same again in the future. All the teams know that he is not the hot rod he used to be just a few years back.
4. His deal is just for 1 year because he did not want to commit for anything longer than that. He thinks Ferrari wants him in their team after 2008 (Good luck with that!).
5. The rumor is that he will not be attending any sponsorship occasions this year. 46 million just for driving the car is simply ridiculous.
6. Renault is not a team with deep pockets. That's actually the reason why Alonso left Renault for Mclaren in the first place. He could not earn very much there.
7. Flavio Briatore is not a stupid man. He would have a lot of explaining to do to the Renault board if he paid any amount close to 46 million dollars.

Yes, Alonso is a very good driver but I would be surprised if Alonso was paid half of that amount.

Microsoft ready to expand beyond Ford SYNC {Autoblog}

Feb 21st 2008 12:15PM I don't see a lot of sensible auto companies signing on to SNYC. I am not even going to mention the reliability of Microsoft products.

A couple of years back, Microsoft prepared software for cellphones and offered it to the cellphone manufacturers for free. In spite of the fact that the manufacturers spend so much money in writing the software for their hardware, they said "No, thanks!" to Microsoft. The main reason is that they don't want to fall to the position of pc manufacturers. The PC manufacturers produce all the hardware and Microsoft bullies them around and makes all the profit.

I know; autos and pc's are not the same but in my opinion only the really desperate auto companies would sign-up.

Chicago 2008: Ford Transit Connect arrives in the States ready to work {Autoblog}

Feb 6th 2008 1:29AM Since they are assembled in Kocaeli, Turkey, I think I have a right to say because I am from Turkey. :)

Seriously, these cars are popular in Turkey. I have a friend who owns one and as far as I know they don't have any reliability issues about them. He drives it really harshly but the car is still intact.

If anybody wants to know more about them, I'll try to learn more.

Jewish racer describes antisemitism in NASCAR {Autoblog}

Jan 24th 2008 5:31AM I am against racism of all kinds no matter who it is directed against and we should fight against racism whereever possible. Having said that, I also believe that racism should not be blamed for one's lack of performance.

Nothing (and nothing) can be an excuse for failure.

VIDEO: Raikkonen and Schumacher in Fiat Bravo commercial {Autoblog}

Dec 12th 2007 3:51AM I watched on youtube. Did you see the plate on that car? "F.AG. 1583". I guess Fiat is targeting a particular crowd with this commercial!

Taxicab GP: What's Schumi Driving Now? {Autoblog}

Dec 12th 2007 3:36AM I read in the Turkish newspaper. He was using his private jet but he had to make it to Italy for an appointment. That's why he was in a hurry. If it was just him, he would not have been late to the airport. But, hey, you have to remember, his family was with him.

Dec 12th 2007 3:31AM I read in the Turkish newspaper. The cab driver is Turkish. I could tell by his name. Michael gave the guy a 100 euro tip. Not bad for a German!
