May 16th 2009 11:40PM Wow, what happened. I don't remember the IS looking this ugly.

May 6th 2009 9:31AM @Joe plenty of close action this season in F1 with the new changes. Apex stealing, out-braking, kers, etc. Been pretty exciting. And no I don't stay up. I uh, cough, find other means of obtaining them.

Apr 24th 2009 3:20AM @Steve They may not be *that* racist, but there's a significant racist element in play...they still commonly had "japanese only" establishments until what, late 90's? I wouldn't be surprised if there were still several around today. Their government-issue "watch out for pick pockets" signs used to use colored folk to depict a typical thief. They have one of the lowest *per capita* acceptance rates for refugees. Becoming a citizen is extremely difficult no matter how long you've lived there. Ethnic Koreans descended from slave labor from the war are commonly discriminated against. The burakumin as well - their version of Indian Untouchables. Governor Ishihara of Tokyo is well known for his disdain for foreigners, and he's been repeatedly voted into office who knows how many times. But yeah, other than that, just like anywhere else I guess.

Apr 8th 2009 1:56PM Why not? It's called hyperbole. Mass-murderers are a subset of general crooks. Shouldn't be too hard to grasp.

Apr 6th 2009 7:38PM If it makes you feel better, you could just translate it to "less pit stops needed." The diesel audi's have been taking advantage of that at Le Mans.

Ford Focus RS heads to 'Ring in search of a class record {Autoblog}

Mar 26th 2009 4:20PM @jcar Not that I'm totally disagreeing with you, but I just wanted to point out that treadwear rating is almost a worthless standard to uphold against. It barely is a standard in fact. The government barely regulates it, and tire mfg's can pretty much set what they think their tires' treadwear rating is at their whim.

Not to mention that tire tech is always changing. Today's street tires were yesterday's slicks, figuratively speaking. Therefore, the best way of going about it is to familiarize yourself with current tires, and to have companies publish exactly what tires they are using. For performance lap times, that's as important as any other major figure like curb weight or torque, if not more.

Mar 26th 2009 4:13PM @Mino Yeah I'm thinking either it was an error, or they just made a blatant attempt to pad their numbers by a huge number, and no one called them out on it (AutoBlog, where are you??). As said, 8:22 beats out/matches an E46 M3, a 335i, a 350z, an S2000, an Exige S, a Cayman...etc, etc.. von Saurma was no slouch either, so I'm a little skeptical.

I forgot to link their official vid (which was posted a day before their SEMA article that listed the 8:22): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=urwJVnWHjiI
Even if I shave off generous seconds to account for the standing start, plus the usual early cutoff ring-runners usually take at the end, it's still about a 9:02 run at best which puts it closer to a Focus RS ('05). It's almost like they said, "Hey the track's a little wet, so really, it would have been a minute faster."

Mar 26th 2009 3:28PM @why not the LS2LS7?

I'm not sure why that's a bad thing, hyper-optimized or not. The ring is a good general case course; it has a little of everything: sweepers, tight turns, straights, etc. I'd rather have a car optimized for that than just a straight line or a slalom.

Mar 26th 2009 2:46PM 8:22. Does no one else (fan boys need not apply) find that a bit quick? That's 4 seconds slower than an ISF, and the same as an E46 M3. The GM video of their 'ring run actually clocks in closer to 9:22 than it does 8:22.

Not jumping on you, noticed those times listed on the 'Ring wiki, too (one unverified, one referring to the GM video).
