REPORT: Cadillac gets green light for smaller, RWD sedan {Autoblog}

Sep 16th 2008 8:06AM @ why not the LS2LS7?,

I should have anticipated the lack of common sense to the statement. BMW (as an example) uses turbos on most of it's models with smaller
displacement engines to produce impressive power, as well as most other German brands. Twin turbo charging any engine is not unheard of, especially in the 4 pot turner crowd, but the massive gains can
be attained without such measures as seen in WRX, EVO, SRT4, MS3, Cobalt SS, etc. Simply put if Caddy is to offer something in this market of powerful 4's, don't just give us any turbo 4, make it
innovative and unique. If people are willing to pay over $30K for average power on entry luxury cars (TSX, S40, C30, A4, etc.), GM could do the unthinkable with a fuel efficient DI turbo 4 in any incarnation. The idea is to exceed expectations of what a 4 cylinder can do versus current perception. They need to keep the interior up to par or above the competition to make a big statement of what the entry level luxury market should be.

Sep 15th 2008 5:42PM They could just do what BMW does with most of it's vehicles on this one and just use turbo 4's for both engines to start and bring in a turbo 6 as the top in a car that relatively the size of an A4. Since they are seemingly moving this to a RWD platform, a powerful turbo 4 (Cobalt SS, Sky Redline, Solstice GXP), would give it a more powerful base engine than anything in it's class. By bumping up the displacement to a turbo charged or twin turbo direct injection 2.4L 4, they could actually tune it to produce well over 300 horsepower, without even resorting to a 6cyl. This would also draw in younger buyers to Caddy dealers seeing as the CTS is the new gotta-have-it car on the block. It would definitely push the envelop with similar styling to its big brother in a compact sporty package.

Confirmed: BMW working on 4 cylinder turbo, may come to U.S. {Autoblog}

Sep 12th 2008 7:59AM Can anyone see a baby 6-series coming besides me? Making a smaller powerful turbo 4 model in he 240+hp realm seems to be what a lot of people are asking for, but will they use this in a 1-series which is nothing more than a small 3-series coupe or make a real low profile sport coupe as the 2-series? This would cause confusion for most as usual, but BMW seems to be covering every angle possible as a stand alone brand. If they start to fall into the everyman category though they stand to gain a bigger share of the market since everyone dreams of having a luxury car in their garage.

Futuremark designs new concept dash for Audi {Autoblog}

Aug 29th 2008 11:04AM No, no, no this is all wrong!! Being of a generation accustomed to everything having digital displays cars are just the place for them. Having custom navigation or audio displays I'm all for, but leave the speedo- and tach in place. Audi is known for having the most stylish interiors in the class why mess with perfection, especially if customers are satisfied with your formula. I see this gimmick as a fun way to amuse those who are buying a VW but at the price point of an Audi I would have to pass on it everytime.

Rendered Speculation: Next Euro Civic will look like Scirocco? {Autoblog}

Aug 21st 2008 12:08PM This would be a great replacement for the current Civic, sportier and definitely sexier than what it is now. Knowing Honda though this model won't make it to the U.S. and well end up with crap like they've been handing us with their last few models from both Honda/Acura.

VW planning new Golf GTI and R variant {Autoblog}

Aug 7th 2008 11:53AM Does this "harder edge" model mean the new GTI will be closer to the Scirocco, a beefed up Golf, or a combination of the two? Either way, if it's still a tall wagon-ish hatchback, most won't care and they'll retain those buyers they already have. The engine change up sounds good, but will the GTI-R still carry that ridiculous price tag that the outgoing model had? Seriously everyone I have ever known to own one of this things tells me not to buy one they are nothing but trouble. The Scirocco is the only car they have that I'm remotely interested in, since we aren't getting it stateside who cares about the rest of their lineup.

Jul 30th 2008 8:15AM I hope those tail lamps are just for testing, the ones from the concept are meant to be seen on the production version. Anyway, this camoed version is old news, http://www.leftlanenews.com/suzuki-kizashi.html, here's a production version but only a side view. As for the platform, it's suppose to be all new, they are only getting the engine and transmission from GM.

Ford posts $8.7B Q2 loss, will convert three truck factories to car production {Autoblog}

Jul 24th 2008 12:11PM Well, they've got the right cars to give them the edge in the market Euro Focus/C30. I think they should really try to destroy the perceptions of small cars in the US, starting with the new small car for Mercury. They could make a sportier sedan/coupe/hatchback similar to the C30 with 4 doors, think VW Scirocco stretched a couple of inches. Take something like this for instance and make it work:

Volkswagen Scirocco R32? Teaser image surfaces {Autoblog}

Jun 30th 2008 9:36AM I second that, since the US won't get a version of either, why should we care? The GTI, as I have often stated, is no more than a small tall wagon which doesn't inspire sport IMO. The low profile wide stance of this new Scirocco would be a perfect candidate for a 2.5T pushing 300+hp and AWD, but since VWoA won't even try to give us a base model, I really don't care.
