GM's Chevy Volt update: All systems go, Malibu-based li-ion mules coming soon {Autoblog Green}

Apr 4th 2008 10:46AM @ Eletruk I feel your pain, I' 6'8" and would love to have a volt. I just dont know if it will happen. My sister has an 00' malibu and I fit in that. The Bat. pack could be T shaped to help distribute weight more evenly, the top of the T might counter the weight of the generator, electric motor and other components in the front. That is an awesome video Tim thanks. I looked at the wind tunnel car and was trying to picture what it would look like in real life.

In the ABG Garage: 2008 Chevy Tahoe Two-Mode Hybrid {Autoblog}

Mar 27th 2008 9:00PM I would still like to see its application in cars to asses its ture potential. Heres an interesting fact: The 2008 Tahoe 2 mode 2wd gets 21/22 mpg city highway, the 4wd gets 20/20. Even more interesting is that the 2008 Lexus LS 600h L gets 20/22 mpg city highway. Just food for thought. I see a lot of bashing of the Tahoe hybrid but is improvement not good?
2008 Lexus LS 600h L curb weight- 5049 HP- 389
2008 Tahoe 4WD hybrid curb weight- 5270 HP- 332
yet the MPG numbers are not too far off

Continental: "Fuel-saving tires might be dangerous" {Autoblog Green}

Nov 13th 2007 11:17PM I purchased a set of low resistance tires some months ago for my car. With the addition of some intake and exhaust modifications I noticed a maximum fuel efficiency change from around 27 mpg highway to 32 mpg. A noticeable difference. This is where things get interesting. The area I live is heavily populated with deer. Before I got the low resistance tires a deer jumped in front of my car while I was traveling about 35 mph and I stopped very quickly. About 2 weeks ago the same thing happened, but this time it took me much longer to stop and the deer actually hit the side of my car. While I cannot be positive that the deer jumped in front of me the same distance as the first time this happened, I'm family sure that the low resistance tires were the cause for the longer stopping distance. I could only imagine what might have happened was I traveling faster or if the accident involved cars. While I’m all for advancing automotive technology to improve economy, I sometimes think we go a bit too far and compromise other aspects of safe driving. Just my input.

VIDEO: Three years before Job 1 and GM is already advertising the Volt {Autoblog Green}

Sep 13th 2007 12:02PM @jwer
The advertisement doesn’t state that the volt is gas free only that Chevrolet is working on gas free options it is part of their new environmental program. If you notice at the end of the commercial it shows the five new symbols that represent their progression in environmental friendliness. The first is fuel economy, the second is ethanol (not my favorite, followed by Hybrid, then electric, and finally fuel cell. That’s the gas free statement. Hence the gas friendly to gas free statement.

@ Blogged to Death
GM is not "way behind on the times" it seems you are still focusing on 5 years ago, many peoples vision of GM is still based on bad experiences of years ago when they are clearly producing better cars and better technology. yes I agree that the belt driven "mild hybrid" doesn’t improve much but it is an inexpensive alternative. They could have just not developed it at all. Or how about the new two mode SUV's able to get 20 MPG city and 21 Highway, like it or not SUV's are still some of the best selling cars on the road. So if you can make those more efficient why not?

@Good Cheer
I agree with your statement however I have a feeling they are further along on the program than we may think. At least I hope that they are because if they aren’t they need to fire their advertising company, who wants to hear about a car for 3 years before they can buy it. The Camaro created such buzz when it was introduced now when people hear about it they say when is it ever going to get here, or they have lost interest all together.

A123 Systems employees get to drive the Chevy Volt {Autoblog Green}

Jul 16th 2007 3:40PM I think it is interesting that they already have prototypes, I think that we are closer to development than they want to reveal. On a side note does anyone know what the car is on A123's site under their plug in hybrid section:
http://www.a123systems.com/newsite/index.php#/home/phev/
that’s a link. To me it looks like a Saturn but I haven’t seen anything like it, I’m a little new to this so if anyone knows what it is.
