Mazda MX-5 will get lighter, maybe alternative powertrain {Autoblog}

Oct 9th 2008 3:24PM I'll be impressed if they can make it lighter as a hybrid or diesel. They could make it lighter by shoving a rotary under the hood...but that wouldn't improve fuel economy.

Volvo vows to bring hybrid diesel by 2012 {Autoblog}

Oct 6th 2008 11:35AM It's about time. I never understood why there was only 1 solution used at a time. Diesel - best mpg when on the highway, Electric - best mpg when in the city. Diesel Hybrid - all around good mpg. Add in plug-in, cylinder deactivation, stop/start, and aerodynamics and we could probably have one amazingly efficient car.

(although I can't imagine this car being light).

Ford introduces car-limiting MyKey for worried parents {Autoblog}

Oct 6th 2008 11:24AM But who needs parenting when you have large corporations and electronics? With TV and internet, kids practically raise themselves nowadays.

Super rich may avoid super expensive cars because of bad image {Autoblog}

Oct 3rd 2008 3:09AM The thing is, in a relative sense, it's not a lot of money. For example, years ago I heard that Bill Gate's built his house for $40 Million dollars. Sounds like a lot right? But that would make his house worth 1/1000th of his net worth at the time of $40 billion. So let's say your house is worth $250,000 - your equivalent net worth would have to be $250 million. You think people worth 250 mil are buying $250K homes? You think people in $250K homes are worth 250 mil? The point is, there are a ton of people out there where $300K isn't a lot of money - in a relative sense. Where you might not care about spending the extra $1 to biggie size your meal, there are people out there that don't mind spending thousands to get a Bentley instead of a Benz.

The gauntlet is thrown: VW Jetta TDI vs. Toyota Prius {Autoblog}

Sep 24th 2008 1:47PM As a driving enthusiast, I have to go with the Jetta on this one. Not that a Jetta is a great performance machine...but diesels have the capability of being great performers. I saw the ALMS Audi's dominate at Road America this year and I am very impressed. What's most impressive is that they were the quietest cars in the race. Of course, that same day, i saw a Jetta TDI get demolished in World Challenge Touring car (and it was the loudest car on track). Sure, they could build a performance hybrid as well, but as heavy as diesel engines are, batteries seem to be heavier.

Also, someone brought about the whole nickel battery issue. I thought I read somewhere (ABG?) that the nickel is actually strip mined.

Event Alert: Italy's finest heading to Chicago for Italian Style {Autoblog}

Sep 18th 2008 11:41AM The 8c is the only draw. You can see the 430 and 599 on the streets of Chicago if it's a sunny day and you wait long enough.

Le Mans organizers target diesels with new rules {Autoblog}

Sep 17th 2008 9:41AM This is dumb. Le Mans banned the rotary engine after Mazda did so well, and now they are crippling diesels because they are doing so well. I understand that you want to balance fair competition with technological innovation - but the Le Mans series is way off the mark here.

F1 teams push for return of the US Grand Prix for 2010 {Autoblog}

Sep 11th 2008 9:38AM To avoid a east coast west coast war the likes of which haven't been seen since the days of Biggie and Tupac, I recommend 2 USGP's. 1 East Coast and 1 West Coast. Either Laguna Seca, Vegas, or Long Beach on the west, and either Watkins Glenn, Lime Rock, or Road Atlanta on the east.
