Seoul Motor Show: GM Daewoo shows off L4X sedan {Autoblog}

What is the matter with all those U.S. Buick dealers? Don't they know their brand needs yet another large sedan? (please note sarcasm)

I'm not in the market for a Buick, and if the current lineup is the direction Buick is headed (that is, large 4 door sedans with little to differentiate them from their competition....except maybe, the availability of pushrod-equipped engines) I hope I never am in the market for a Buick.

I loved the Riviera's (well, most of them) and the 2 door Regals, but Buick...EVERYONE has sedans and SUVs, I see no real reason to even consider yours.

New York Auto Show: No paint for these Volvos, the entire body is covered in fabric {Autoblog}

Wow, the first Volvo sold had a 1.95 liter engine and it would take Volvo Cars nearly 50 years before they would offer an engine bigger than 2 liters (the 1 and 1/2 of a 4 cylinder engine in the 164).

Re Nick,

I just now looked at the "additional images" and see your point about the gear shift. However, with so many cars using cable-operated gear shifting, it's no longer necessary to have a direct/MECHANICAL link to the transmission. It's hard to tell from the photo just how far back the armrest goes before it joins the floor. It could "hit" the car's floor right before the leading edge of the seats, which is a distance for cables, but not an insurmountable distance.

Gee, let's see. Hyundai powers a new sportster with a 2 liter engine, considering that the price of gas is ABOVE $2.50/gallon, yeah, they should have used a V6 or even an 8. The show car features a 5 speed manual trans? How old hat is that? What? Only a handful of cars for sale in the U.S. have a 6 speed manual? Diss Hyundai for being so unhip.

As far as the no rear window, like a previous poster, I had a Ford fastback with it's near horizontal rear window (in my case a Mercury Cyclone GT). But if I was able to fit the backup camera to my car that I recently fitted to my Mom's Taurus...I wouldn't have much of a problem with this car"s lack of a rear window.

New York Auto Show: LaCrosse and Lucerne here, but location is less than Super {Autoblog}

Here I go nitpicking again.

GM. you have two newish cars both with new models, would it have killed you to use colors that DON'T melt into the background at an auto show? More importantly, why confuse folks by putting two different cars (painted the SAME EXACT COLOR) back to back? It looks like some unimaginative "mirror-like" display of one car. I wonder how many people that managed to see this display realized they were looking at two different cars.

New York Auto Show: Hidden basement treasures {Autoblog}

Apr 5th 2007 7:06PM
That such a great piece of Buick history was "in the basement" speaks volumes about what is wrong with Buick and to a lesser extent, GM.

Oh, no, we can't let every GM brand have it's own muscle car...performance is reserved for Pontiac, and for those on a shoe string budget: Chevy. That strategy sure did wonders for Oldsmobile.

First Aussie hoon to lose his car for life {Autoblog}

I ALMOST, repeat, ALMOST wish we had a law like that here in the 'states. This week, my local newspaper had a story about a driver arrested for his 13th D.U.I. THIRTEEN!!!! The story also stated that this guy had "apparently been driving on a suspended license....his license having been suspended in 1981". YES, he drove for 25 years on a suspended license.

Like stores that refuse to allow bad check writers to write any more checks, drivers with X numbers of D.U.I.s should have their names on a list and no registrations should allowed for ANY motor vehicle for a set period of years.

The guy in this story probably won't miss his 27 year old Toyota all that much.

Scion announces xB pricing starts at $15,650 {Autoblog}

Two thoughts:

1.) there is no accounting for taste (the old model looks almost like a classic compared to this version).

2.) AND, being a Toyota/Scion, it will probably sell in respectable numbers. After discontinuing the Celica, Mr2, and the Supra, Toyota no longer sells a car (or truck/SUV) that I would want to buy.

Subaru may mate boxer diesel to CVT {Autoblog}

Apr 4th 2007 5:36PM
As usual (it appears) that no one read what was posted by those before them. One poster says Subaru should adopt an automatic with MORE gears if it wants to increase fuel mileage in a diesel powered car. Another says that an automatic transmission with an "infinite" number of gears is superfluous in a diesel powered car. A a diesel powered vehicle has such a flat torque curve, that having more than 1 or 2 gears in the transmission is a wasted effort.

Then there is the "I hate the feel of an electric motor" that one poster feels is emparted by CVT equipped cars while another thinks having gear "steps" is a pointless affectation.

Finally, Subaru have managed to remain a somewhat independent car manufacturer for at least 30 to 35 years. Why should they dump what has worked so far and become just "another upscale SUV" brand by using the maximum amount of Toyota parts that they can?

Ford prices 2008 Taurus at $23,995 {Autoblog}

Apr 4th 2007 12:22PM
PLEASE Autoblog.com incorporate software that instantly deletes the phrases "...lipstick on a pig" and "...polished turd" AND bars any and all posters who think they must continue to use these 2 phrases.

The 500 is/was a good deal of a car, with the bigger, more powerful engine, this Taurus is an even better deal. Not as good as an Avalon? Thank heavens. According to thousands of posters on AB, Toyotas suck and the Camry and it's derivatives are THE most recalled vehicles on the planet. Not up to Audi standards? I used to own an Audi, and traded it for a Ford. I didn't really care for the lackluster dealer service that was overpriced and hard to find, not to mention some of the idiotic German car "quirks" VWAG still incorporates into their designs. LUG BOLTS? How pre-historic is that?

Yeah, it was dumb of Ford to let the original Taurus slide into oblivion, and even dumber to resurrect the name...but give it a chance. Hell, the names Miata and/or MX-5 sound kind of weird when you think about it.
