Ask Engadget HD: What's the best long-range OTA antenna? {Engadget HD}

Jul 16th 2008 1:44PM I'm about 40 miles out and have been very happy with the Wineguard GS2200 (amplified):
http://www.solidsignal.com/prod_display.asp?PROD=ANWGS2200

Bought it from SolidSignal too.

And forget antennaweb, it's owned by the cable companies and not very good. Use TVFool.com instead, much more accurate info and includes directional info.

Job and brand cuts from GM on the horizon {Autoblog}

Jul 7th 2008 9:16AM I was wondering the exact same thing. Everytime this discussion happened before, it was said that the dealer franchise agreement prevented wholesale selloffs of GMC, etc. (Evidently the Olds shutdown cost them a bundle).

I don't see what's different this time around, other than if they do go CH11, it may allow them an way out of the franchise agreements.

Jul 7th 2008 9:13AM Why don't you read the article before complaining about people doing research...

It says that most analysts indicate Saturn hasn't made money in the 20 years of it's existence.

Now it's (quasi) official: Chevy Beat to U.S. {Autoblog}

Jul 3rd 2008 6:16PM I didn't even know about the WSJ article. Try Bloomberg, SeekingAlpha or any of the investment centered news sites for chatter on the Merrill report:
"Bankruptcy is not impossible if the market continues to deteriorate.''

They are burning cash at a horrible rate and will likely have to draw on available credit lines in 2009. They have a serious problem.

Jul 3rd 2008 3:08PM This is likely just a 'leak' designed to help prop up a failing stock and maybe divert the constant din of bankruptcy talk that's going around.

They are in serious trouble and unless it's for sale RIGHT NOW, it doesn't matter much. They've barely enough cash to last the year...

Hedging its bets - HUMMER dealer anticipates doom, pre-emptively downsizes {Autoblog}

Jun 22nd 2008 3:50PM @AZMike: Unfortunately, your 'two things' are two pieces in a much larger puzzle. For example:

1) In the past several weeks, the Saudis have already annouced two production increases yet it didn't affect futures trading. Why? It doesn't affect demand, 'cause the Chinese are buying every barrel they can.

2) The problem isn't speculators - speculators alone don't make a market. Speculators are also pouring money into the nickel market, but prices have been very soft and not risen. Why not? Demand isn't there. You have to have demand for speculators to make money.

This is a demand driven market, period. The chinese are buying every barrel they can and are even importing gasoline. The WSJ had an excellent article yesterday about how their recent raising of petro-prices in China may actually *increase* demand even more.

This is not even comparable to 1973.

SVT fans rejoice! A new Ford super-truck is coming this fall {Autoblog}

Jun 15th 2008 1:35PM Uh, most Harley buyers *are* posers. That's what keeps them in business.

ChauhanStudio's Jetsons-esque HAL LCD TV gets real {Engadget HD}

Jun 13th 2008 1:58PM From about '77 to '95 our family had a JCPenney branded TV that looked remarkedly similar to this. Big white bezel with black overscreen, but with channel knob and indicator in upper right corner 'cause - you know - that's how they did things then.

I wonder if JCPenney will go back to selling TVs with this one...

Ford Fiesta snapped in the wild {Autoblog}

Jun 12th 2008 6:04PM All those cars you mentioned (even the Si) are not top sellers, not by a long shot - even my beloved GTI. I bought mine from one of the largest dealers in the area, and the sales guy was so excited because he only sells two a year. They dribble out in handfuls, getting wildly abused by teenagers everywhere. (I'm the lone exception to that rule)

And you all must have short memories, because when the new Civic was introduced they didn't even have an Si model for a year or two after the intro. Or was it even longer? Is Honda dumb? Do they not know what they're doing? No, they're pretty good and what they do and they focused on the small things and got the car right. Now it's the top of the sales heap (and not the Si).

'Buzz' from marketing mavens and car blogs don't due jack for sales. 99.9% of people walking into a Ford dealer don't know what an SVT is. Half of them that do end up with one probably buy it because it's the only way to get a sunroof.

Ford needs to focus (like Honda did) and bring out the best car they can. Distractions like performance mods are just a waste of time...

Ford Fiesta snapped in the wild {Autoblog}

Jun 12th 2008 2:14PM For a GM product of that era, the Fiero was pretty exciting. Enough so that it made the Car and Driver "10 Best" for 1984.

And I don't care what Honda/Madza/VW does. That's a different clientele completely. We're talking about buyers walking into Ford showrooms who don't know what a GTI is, or care. All they know is that their F150 costs too much and they need to trade it in or get an additional smaller car to offset it. This will be a great addition, as long as they don't blow it...
