It looks like...nothingness. Don't have anything against Toy, but their cars are just so bland. With the Camry and Corolla it makes sense because they are mainstream cars but this is supposed to be a sports car, a car that evokes some excitement. It does nothing for me, and if you remove the T badge I would be confused, I wouldn't know what car company made it. Its blandness would tell me that its Jap, so that narrows it down to Honda, Nissan, Toyota, Mazda, Suzuki, Subaru, Mitsubishi, Daihatsu???? The Mustang, Camaro, Challenger trio are all much more exciting for me that this..thing. Compliments to the fact that it pays homage to the original..just as bland that is. (By the way, I'd guess that the older one is a Nissan/Datsun and the newer is a Mazda)

In regards of the previous comments: Aesthetics aside, that car sounds promising as In terms of providing a great rwd platform at an extremely affordable price. As in terms of comparing that car to a entry level mustang, camaro, and challenger, one could obtain an equally performing car for the same price not the $12-13k price quoted from the posting for the ae86,originating of any import or domestic availability. (for example the 25-30k price range of a 2008 Challenger) in terms of application of car: curvaceous mountain driving, long highway lanes, local drag strip, city intersection, local autox, or any other venue or type of driving/racing imaginable.) The right tool for the right application. As in terms of judging its exterior appeal, that sounds like a personal decision, which is completely entitled to you. Personally, I think the new dodge challengers fall short of the cars the donned the original monikers. In fact, I would agree upon critiquing a majority of stock cars, performance or economic, have a rather dull appeal. But when one discovers the cars abilities and short comings, it sometimes adds a different perspective on how the car appeals to a person in its aesthetics exclusively. Also, your ineptness to discern between the different models of those eight Japanese based manufacturers you mentioned above serve a great basis in critical critique of the cars exterior appeal!
Plus, yeah the new Ae86 is quite a sexy little beast. Going to be fun finding all the usable power in the Corolla. Will those legendary monikers of Sprinter/Levin going to be continued with the new Ae86?
I want it... Hopefully it has the GE head, and RWD oh and for the love of god a 6-speed fully manual gear box... and none of that vsc or abs garbage...
aiways wanted aAE86 but never got around 2 owning 1,2 have a brand new car like dis it would be ta bussiness it would be great 2 have abit more power than ta 120bhp just we all not modifed heads.please toyota tell me ya can get it thought a main dealer and is comming 2 ireland.keep ta dream alive
Bland? Toyota have given us a perfect canvas for customising. Rear wheel drive ripe for an LSD, hopefully similar weight distribution and a strong chassis like the old one so drifting will be on the cards before long.
Don't forget it will be low and light, so for standard power it will be enough to get you to the tuners ;)
Of all the truly bland cars I see on the road today, this one will stand out as another of Toyota's more exciting cars.
