#10 Volkswagen Tiguan (1 of 10)
Perhaps the most well known gibberish car name on the market today, the Volkswagen Tiguan got its meaningless name from a marketing promotion. German publication giant Auto Bild allowed readers of its various magazines and websites to vote on the CUV's new name, and Tiguan, which is a combination of the German words Tiger ("tiger") and Leguan ("iguana"), won. Other names in the running were Namib, Rockton, Samun and Nanuk, which all sound equally gibberish to us.

Top on the list ought to be the European name for the Nissan Rogue SUV: Qashqai - what kind of name is that? .....

Not a gibberish word, just funny - the name for the Mitsubishi Montero in other countries was "Pajero". Hope they didn't use that name in any Spanish-speaking countries, as it's slang for "man who masturbates". Too funny!

I think Nissan Altima should be on the worst car name list.

The Xterra name has been quite successful for Nissan. X has masculine connotations and implies high technology. There is strong sound symbolism with the word extra which implies unexpected consumer benefits.
