I agree with you both, it is based on the Taurus X and not the Flex. If FORD was smart I would hope they would bring a Flex based vehicle to Mercury. I drive a Mercury and I would think they would help that brand a little or KILL it off.
Did you ever think that it is a flex with Taurus X body panels? Just like GM used trailblazer panels for their new small CUV mule. It's not uncommon in the industry. Note the extended rear door hinting to the larger Flex frame
Look closely at the panel stuck between the front and rear doors. It is indeed a Taurus X body. This has been cobbled together to cover a testing mule for the Flex-based vehicle. This way, everyone that sees it will conclude what you guys have. Under all that is the new crossover, though.
Agree with GB. Looks to me like the extended version of the D3 platform, the one the Flex will get. The Taurus X gets the regular version. I can see some stretch in the body indicating that it is on the Flex platform.
It's a cooling model, means they put the production front end on a current model that rides on the same platform. Plus as noted by someone above this isn't a normal Taurus x, its pretty elongated.
I am glad all of you Ford haters showed off your savvy and disected Ford's concept. NOT!!!. Keeping smooking your weed... The MK-F will not look anything like that. Wait and see.

This is not based on the FLEX. It clearly is a nose job on the Taurus X.
