FORD: Please bring over the Transit Connect now!!! I owned an '84 Nissan Stanza Van which I thought was a great size, had very good mpg, excellent utility and cargo hauler. The Connect looks like the Stanza Van reincarnated. The Honda Element and Scion X/b are too ugly/boxy and for the kids; we need something practical for adults.
Here's what is needed: economical 4-cyl gas and Diesel with 5 or 6 speed manual; priced competitively at $13-15,000; room for 5 with a flat cargo area; removable rear seat; no package options, let the buyer choose what he needs; optional 4wd, like Escape, but keep it simple like the Suzuki SX-4 at $15,000; dual sliding rear side doors; use the chassis from the European Focus, not the 3-4 year old one used in the current U.S. Focus.
This is the perfect vehicle for these tough times and $3.25/gal gas. The market is flooded with too many bloated $30,000+ SUV's, etc. The U.S. is badly in need of European-like practical cars. The Prius is overpriced, costly to maintain and not as economical as people think. Hybrids are not the answer.
