Will the real owner of Ducati please stand up? It seems things are not as cut-and-dry as we once understood. Audi has just released its 2012 Interim Financial Report, and there is an interesting little bit on its acquisition of Ducati. It seems that not only was the performance motorbike producer purchased for less than previously stated, but it's technically not even owned by Audi.

According to at least one unnamed source, Audi's purchase of Ducati is as good as done. Reuters reports that Audi has taken a good hard look at Ducati's books and found "no major stumbling blocks."

A Daimler spokesman has put an end to rumors that his employer is trying to outbid Audi for an interest in motorcycle-builder Ducati.

Wait a second... a diesel Ducati? Has the sale to Audi gone through and the TDI engine made its way onto two wheels already? In a word: no. This isn't diesel with a small D, but Diesel with a capital D – as in the Italian house of denim.
