Fake as they come. the two red reflectors give it away, if the fact there's a hood bulge on a mid engine car. The rear intake is from the Audi R8 and the rest is an amalgamation of a stretched M3 and the Ford GT in the original photo.
That's a Photoshopped image! Why would someone sharpen an image to death? Just look at the headlights, it's taken from another image and squeezed into there.
This is a pretty good photoshop, but there are a few tell-tale signs of a photoshop here:
Those wheels are from the 2006 Mazda Kabura concept.
The front fender signal repeater - there is no highlight or shadow to show the part gap - this is tacked on.
The hood vents - also added on, they are not the same size or proportion.
That C-pillar - obviously does not belong on this car - the color, lighting, intersections with the shoulder surface are all wrong compared with the rest of the car. Here is an obvious spot where the creator got lazy. (also notice that the car has 2 gas caps. oops indeed.)
Also, as others have stated - this is a front engined proportion, and the M1, if they build it, would be a mid-engined car. BMW knows better than to make a mistake like this.
The lighting / shadow is inconsistent.
Overall a gorgeous looking car though, but certainly no BMW work.
I am 99 percent sure this is a fake. First of all in my opinion as a BMW fanatic the designers there have way too much skill to put out something as unoriginal as this.
to begin with the head lights are taken of a mitsubishi EVO X and just had the bmw double circles placed inside that shape. the side and front are mostly M3, but the rear, top, and area where the hood meets the A-pillar are M6 and the rest is just streched and tweeked photoshopping.
Photochop! The rear intakes are chrome while the rest of the roof/ A-pillar structure is white. Another dead give away is the front clip/ front quarter panels. According to this picture the entire surround (both front quarters + bumper) is one piece. Also, the hood does not properly match up with the front clip (look at the corner closest to the grill) Overall, well done but obviously not an actual car or official BMW rendering.

9k is completely right!
+ it's very plain to see that the R8 intake is fake
