Chevy HHR vs. Chrysler PT Cruiser (4 of 12)
Both of these quirky wagons were actually designed by the same guy, so it's no surprise that their retro styles look similar. The PT Cruiser is inspired by classic custom hot rods while the HHR supposedly harkens back to Suburbans from the '30s and '40s. We like hot rods more than Suburbans, so the PT Cruiser gets points for its appearance. The HHR, however, is more functional and has more variants, including a factory panel van and high-performance SS model. While the PT Cruiser is certainly more charming, the HHR wins on account of its wider appeal.
WINNER: Chevy HHR

The PT Cruiser is dead on the vine. Why even mention this one?

The PT Cruiser has always had wider appeal than the HHR, just look at the sales numbers and let them be your guide. The HHR has never lived up to the promise of utility or retro appreciation by the market it was to appeal to. Let's hope if it stays, that the new company figures out a new future for the Cruiser.

Over 8 years of neglect has killed the PT. This thing is riding on the Neon platform for crying out loud. It is the better seller and better product but it will get dumped as planned because GM doesn't have the money lying around to update a niche product. I wouldn't be shocked though if the HHR follows it to the graveyard.

HHR wins, hands down....b/c of the additional available cargo space BEHIND the second row. The exterior should get revised front & rear facias to match the other Chevys. And maybe an AWD option would be great...but I guess if I want some of those items I should just wait for the next Equinox.
Anyhoo...I like the small, quirkiness of the HHR and appreciate how easy it is to drive around town, get groceries, haul a few kids to school, practice, movies and get descent fuel mileage.
