I am not sure but the interior looks the same but not surprising since the last 3 gens pretty much kept the same interior and the last 2 were identical.
A twin turbo V-6 would be a good upgrade for a base model, say an option. However, it would not be enough to compete against a 'Z' Vette or a top of the line Viper.
If I were the head Honcho at Ford I would bring back the 429 over head cam displacement and run a positive displacement intercooled supercharger. Instead of the original SOHC it would be a DOHC, and shoot for 700 HP minimum. I would market it with a standard six speed solid rear axle all new leather interior superior vented (huge) disc brakes, Big round black with white numbers analog gauges, AC different sound system (not the wonderful Mach 460, but something better with stand alone amps). It would have a built in understated roll cage with 5 point restraints. The body would be wind tunnel tested with the a under body pan working with understated aero features including heat extractors and low pressure areas that use sculpted one off body pieces instead of bolt on wings and splitters etc. To cap off this black on black understated beast from hell (I think I would make special badging half horse half man) out of real silver, again understated, and a tasteful (dual round indents sunk in a carbon fiber hood, like a horses nostrils). Tires and rims would be top of the line non factory pieces.
Options would be carbon fiber trunk lid, freon to air intercooler boost package from 12 psi to 18 psi which would raise target hp from 700 hp to 850 even if it required nitrous. Of course with special badging would be reqired.
Now that would be a mustang that I would choose above any sports car in the less than 100,000.00 range and would probably would sell close to that and turn a profit. Yeah a carbon fiber stang with factory air and a usable 850 hp and a stable ride at 160 mph, topping out 200 mph. I would love it.
