My wife and I owned a '98 Passat for three years and loved it. Small kids required the painful shift to a minivan. This is the car we have been dreaming of since we first read about it as a possible addition to the VW line. We can't wait!
I agree, i have owned a 2000 1.8L turbo and loooove it as well!! I have had it for 5 years and it is just now having minor problems at 105k miles. It is by far the best value for the price. The accoutrements, handling, materials, and not to mention the german driving experience! Now i've been lusting after and Audi w/their new grill/design, but this would easily satiate my appetite for a luxe experience and give a (slightly) cheaper pricetag. My practical sense says japanese to last the long haul, but i have been a very big vw/audi fan from the day i first drove my Passat..
Wow! Still love my 99 Passat V6 I bought new, but it's time to think about replacing it after 125k. Just back from the Detroit auto show, and this is the car for me. Can't wait to drive one. Absolutely stunning appearance. Hope it handles & rides as fabulous as it looks. OK so the body lines are a rip-off of the Mercedes S Class, but that's a good thing.
I've been an avid Passat owner since March 1993 when I bought my first and only Passat Gl. I traded in my Mercedes "Babby Benz", which had turned out to be a lemon for the Passat. Now at 184K miles I'm still madly fond of my car, which had only one major repair about 11 years ago when I replaced the distributor.
I might be tempted finally to trade up to the new Passat CC. I will wait a year or two to see how it performs.
I think the CC is an absolutely stunning automobile. Great job VW!!
