Sadly I am not impressed but rather disappointed; prior reports were giving us the numbers well above 650 hp. We were given the beautiful numerals of 750 hp in supercharged form. Although still not pleased with GM making “The King”, ZR1 attain those numbers via charger, at least it had 750 hp to build from (don’t tell me your going to buy me dinner then throw me a bag of chips). Don’t get me wrong I am a true GM/corvette fan but at the same time I am a realist and being the realist that I am, I have to admit that we have been out gunned by the GT-R in being best bang for the buck “supercar”. The GT-R’s recent performance at the ring is nothing short of impressive and has raised the bar to a respectable height; a height in which I doubt our beloved ZR1 will be able to leap frog. I am no Arabian prince and if I were given the money to go buy the ZR1 you’d find me at the nearest Nissan dealership driving off in a GT-R to go get the dinner that GM promised me. In the end, being a true car enthusiast has won over my decades of allegiance to GM and the corvette name and I have truly fallen over to the dark side. GM please save me and my Z06 with better news and figures for the ZR1, because come 08 I will be doing the most poetic, sacrilegious act by trading in my Z06 to go towards a GT-R (partially out of spite). My apologies to the car world and to myself for this post, but my blind devotion has been destroyed and from here on out he with the sweetest ride get the sour juices of my labor (hopefully I never have to by a chery or Hyundai)! To my newly acquired “haters” I leave you with the most ridiculous line I’ve ever heard from an even more ridiculous movie and must ask you to “look past your judgment” (Redline).
I too am not impressed. If an aftermarket company did this to a vette, most of the media would thrash the company for being gaudy or over the top. That absolutely aweful interior (except the instrument cluster) and plain jane steering wheel that you would look at everytime you got inside would drive me within inches of anger. I have patiently been waiting for the Corvette to stir something inside of me other than disappointment. Lets hope for something as beautiful as potent in the C7. The performance numbers may be good but some nice additions like the brakes and carbon fiber are not going to offset the utter ugliness and cheap interior materials of this car. Did GM consult with Chris Bangle on how to destroy an American icon like he did with the German icon? I was in love with my vette for over 14 years and enjoyed looking at it as much as i enjoyed driving it hard. Oh Lord, when will my suffering end?
